Never realised how much prediction the MX518 had. Anyway, I love the new mouse, apart from the mouse wheel being super sensitive and the thumb button feeling like mash potato.

MX518 is really really bad if you install setpoint.

Is it just the SteelSeries that do that "no driver" thing? I quite like the SteelSeries because they seem to approach changing DPI in an actually practical way, unlike Logitech and Razer who expect you to use two buttons cycling through five presets.
Also, has anyone used any Roccat mice? Are they decent quality?

I wouldn't bother with anything with a laser to be honest, they're too inconsistant; a decent optical will suit you fine.
I'm using a CM Spawn at the moment which I absolutly love, amazing sensor and really ergonomic. Outside of that, MX518 is good, as is the IMO and WMO.

Are there any high res opticals? I tried switching to one of the SteelSeries ones but found it too low resolution.

Opticals fuck up on multicoloured mats etc, lasers fuck up on glossy, either way its dependant on your choice of mousemat if you bought the wrong one for your mouse its not the mouses fault. (assuming you mean tracking consistency). laser should theoretical be way better with the right mat. fairly sure my deathadder is an infrared laser mouse? don't have any problems. not sure how to switch dpi on it but iuno isn't that better done with game sens? i never really bother playing with my settings I only have leet aim in bf games and theres too many guns. and heavy is just all about keeping the big circle on the mans

I think most go up to about 3200 which should be more then enough to be honest. I think the 3.5g Deathadder can get 4000 but thats expensive and Razers build quality isn't the best. Thats a load of bollocks dude, I've had laser mice (Logitech g9 and Roccat Kone) freak out on pretty much every mouse mat I've ever used (QCK+, both sides of an exact mat and some random HL2 plastic mousemat) and never had a single problem with any optical mouse on any mat. Also, Deathadder's optical and has one of the best sensors around. Doesn't have on the fly dpi switching though IIRC.

I got MX518 and a Roccat Taito mouse pad. I don't know shit about sensors and stuff, but when I move my mouse, my mouse arrow also moves.

I guess I'm not really bothered about on the fly dpi switching. 3200 DPI could be enough for me, I know the 2000 I have on my G5 isn't really enough. I remember liking the Razer Lachesis' sensor but it's grip gave me wrist ache. Razer stuff all seems pretty wanky tbh. Hate the way all gaming mice are advertised.
THE EVISCERATOR 4G CONTAINS A NINE AXIS DUAL CORE SENSOR TO ENSURE YOU CAN DOMINATE ANY OPPONENT ON THE WAR TORN BATTLEFIELD OF YOUR OWN INSECURITIES.

MX 1000 Laser; No Mousepad. That's right, plain desk. Also I'm wondering if anytime soon DPI values will be so ridiculously high that one starts to notice quantum mechanical effects when moving ones mouse. Applaud to Brahms for aptly summarizing gamer mice for me.
