Chaos, there's not a great deal you can do, It just comes down to whether your local UBR is oversubscribed. As things are you can probably downgrade to 10Mb and save some money. However, I believe the new 50Mb service is running on a completely separate system so if you can upgrade to that you should get full speed.
also, speedtest.bbmax.co.uk is a much more reliable test. They have more bandwidth available for testing, i've tested at over 70Mb/s from uni.

Man, virgin, similar to others - the throttling during the evenings always seems to be on (even if no one was online all day), meaning utterly terrible pings and disconnects at times since upload speed is crap (so my brother being online just makes it unbearable). I'll definitely be looking into higher upload speeds when I get my own place, since I need to upload a lot of material to the IA, and it's painful on Virgin.

Mine might be most expensive, but I had nothing but trouble with Pipex/etc, so paid a bit more and they've been great:
1. Andrews & Arnold 2. ADSL 3. 8Mb (quota in working day, no quotas otherwise) 4. £26 5. 6:15 6. 64 ms 7. 2276 kb/s 8. 365 kb/s

(so my brother being online just makes it unbearable).
A swift strike to the carotid artery should temporarily ease the problem. When he recovers, hit him again. Hopefully you'll be able to time your assaults between rounds

2gb cap per month for your peak hours? Ouch! That's only 100mb per day! I probably use more than that just watching funny videos on Youtube. I expect it's fine if you don't have anyone in the house during the daytime though.
