Right, Id quite like to test my ISP against others
It would also be handy to have a good reliable list of ISPs with speed tests.

so click here and test your ISP

Once you have done it, post the following information to help people choose the best ISP for thier needs!
1. Company or Provider
2. Cable/ADSL
3. Listed speed (2mb, 4mb ect)
4. Amount of money per month
5. Time tested (peak times will be slower due to local exchange being loaded)

To make it fair, Lets do the same server each time, I think the London one will be a good middleground for us all

My area is great for Cable, I get a full 10mb down, 512kb up any time of day ... but i'm limited to 2.5mb for the next few hours because I downloaded some big stuff when i woke up.

Basically on Virgin you can't do any big downloads except overnight, or you get limited to 1/4 your normal speed for the next 5 hours. I think the cap is 1250mb for me between 9am and 1500, and 750mb between 1600 and 2200

It's actually a hell of a lot easier to live with than most FUP's that are about nowadays.

Uni connections go via a fat dedicated Fibre connection, which is symmetric bandwidth. I expect your personal limit is 10mb each way, usually they just set the switch speed to 10mb in the accommodation.

When I was in uni accommodation I used a tunnelling service that allowed me to host websites from my pc and take advantage of the 10mb upload ( www.your-freedom.net ). I used DC++ back in those days too, and the upload bandwidth was pretty sweet for getting access to the good hubs.

I want 10Mb fiber [We can't have decent fiber in Denmark because of stupid ISPs not knowing that it's the future!]

Annoyingly, back in the 80's BT wanted to run fibre to every house in the UK, for free, as long as they could run TV services over it.
The Thatcher government turned it down because they diddn't want BT getting too big

Can you imagine if it had gone ahead though, every house in the UK able to get a 10mb or better (up to 100mb is easy) connection right from when we first started to use the net and everyone else was on dial-up?
