Had no real issues except for the the speeds gained are no where near the up to. Which you'll find from most companies, just some are closer to the figure than others.

Also on a nerdier side, would anyone be interested in graphing some of this? I'd only do it if I got particularly bored.
And would anyone be interested in adding more info like contention rates etc.?

Was on Supanet- avoid like the plague, terrible speeds, fairly bad contention, copious cut offs.

From what i've heard about Sky, they are good so long as you get the LLU ADSL2 service (the up to 16MB) In areas where they don't have their own equipment and have to use BT's 8MB max service they have some pretty draconian download limits.

Best ISP I've found if you can't get an LLU service is UK-Online. They're what i use at my parents house and are the only reasonably priced ISP i could find without any limits.
It's around £15 for 2MB (at home I'm on this, since our modem can only sync at about 3.5 anyway), or £20 for 8MB.

Part of the training I went through this week went into how ADSL worked and what it was that micro filters actually do. I also found out that BT will never admit to a fault and that they feel a ratio of 50:1 is more than acceptable. So with that in mind I'm off to my local exchange to cut the lines on 49 of my neighbours

Oh and Japan has a totaly fiber optic network. Not fiber optic to the exchange and then copper to the home / office. Fiber optic all the way. Awsome speeds!!!

yea their network is a lot better than ours
Ours is mostly really old but they have upgraded and rebuilt their networks from scratch a lot!

for around £20pcm you can get around 1GB/s download speed! thats insane compared to us westerners

Yeah, i seem to recall that their telecoms company nearly bankrupted themselves putting it in place, but it's really paying off now

Personally i think the british government should put some public spending money into a proper fibre-optic infrastructure, just the sort of thing we need in an economic depression.

As some may know i've executed a change in ISP, so thought I'd give a direct comparison now that the 10 day stabilisation period has elapsed.

BT also sold my a nifty gadget called an I-Plate (essentially a noise reduction filter for the broadband line), which I account for taking my connection to nearly 2MB when the line is only rated for 1.5MB, just about a full 1MB speed increase. I'd recommend it to anyone on a BT line in a rural area or who is a fair distance from the exchange.
