I do find the weight thing slightly useful in my G5, but I promised myself my next mouse would be ambidextrous. That was before I got my trackball for my left hand though. Decisions decisions. G9 or Razer.

Any other mice of that kind of caliber? Guess the steelseries ikari that Abda mentioned.

Actually hold on, what's all this about the Lachesis

Another instance of possible overkill is that the Lachesis has five different dpi settings that you can switch between. If you're playing an FPS, it's unlikely that you'll need more than two different dpi settings, or perhaps three, so you probably won't find much use for five different dpi settings. It doesn't appear possible to eliminate any of these dpi settings, so even if you need only two, you still have to use all five,

Well it was a review, not the forum, but I guess they could have updated the drivers since then? I'm not too sure about the G9, it's got some fancy scrolling technology, I see that, but when I read "fancy scrolling technology" I mentally interpret it as "This mouse's scrollwheel is going to break like the last one"

Its way too sensitive! I scroll through a webpage, want to stop, so I remove my finger from the wheel, not realising its still rolling so to the bottom of the page I go.. EVERY BLOODY TIME

There are loads of updates to the razer mice, theyr even porting the new 4th gen Mamba drivers to the older tech, so youll see all the new advancements that I get

Hehe, my Maplin's 7 button mouse I bought as an emergency stand in (for £15) is the best mouse I have ever had.

There is very little difference between the DA and the L when your playing..
The DA has a higher profile so for smaller hands its quite uncumfortable. But the L is low and sleek so fits any hand size (Deadly has small hands.. ask him)

But the thing that swings it for me is the 4000DPI and the 9 buttons.. they really come in handy in games and in normal apps

Mice are difficult

As mentioned in the shoutbox I tried the Lachesis, but I think Razer and I are not meant for each other.
And since I'm very picky about driver support I guess that leaves me with either MS or Logitech. I looked at both the Sidewinder X8 and the G9. Reviews about both mice are good (Chaos already dismissed the X8, but I've read a lot of good stuff about it, though). But both didn't quite convince me completely. (It's a conspiracy). Couldn't testdrive them, just see if the shape fits me.

The X8 is a bit bulky, but I guess I could get used to that. The thumb buttons are a bit weird, though, being on top of each other. But - as many reviews have pointed out - the surface of the wheel is shit (metal, kinda smoothish).

I was expecting the G9 to be too small, but actually the size and shape works okay. Thumb buttons are fine. Wheel is okay. BUT: The wheel button on the one I had was insanely hard to press. And since this is my default reload button this is bad Does anybody know if the G9x has the same problem?

Sigh, I might give the G5 a closer look, but it's so ugly

If you want to buy Logitech, you should take a look at the G7.

It's wireless and the black edition looks very nice too.

I think the G7 is basically a wireless G5. I rock a first gen G5 (only one button on the side and a similarly ugly finish) and I will say that I think the four way scroll wheels just take a while to get used to.

Back in my COD4 days I would have middle click as throw grenade and left scroll as throw flashbang, and I did OK like that.

G5 is alright in other respects though. Comfy, reasonably nice drivers, alright sensor. With two buttons under the thumb it could be very nice indeed.

The G9 does have that funky scrolll setting, which seems like it'd be quite handy for non gaming, if you ever findyourself scrolling long documents.

I heard of a lot of problems with cramping with the X8
maybe similar to Brahms' experience with the Lachesis
So I would avoid the X8 to be honest

But the G9 on the other hand seems it would suit your needs perfectly as it has more driver support than any other mouse. And its extremely popular so there is lots of info out there on it. There are also mods available for the drivers themselves so Im sure youll find the right solution with that mouse..

I just cant get on with that scroll wheel

I need a positive click or something mechanical underneath to let me know that I have "clicked" or "scrolled"
not just a flywheel
If you want to scroll long documents faster, then change the settings in the drivers
