I got a Microsoft InteliMouse Explorer 3.0 5 button mouse that's green and claims to be "Alienware by Microsoft". Not sure about that, but anyhoo.

It was donated to me, so I like the price

To throw in a different element, I use my mouse on an Everglide Giganta mouse pad / chopping board. This semi clear plastic thing with glitter embeded in it. Works just awsome for me

We'll end up with anew thread of "what do you use your mouse on?" next. Hells! I'll start one

4H headset, it's alright at the price but some times I do experience that the sound isn't too good in one side, and listening to music is just ghastly!

Okay, bumping this up rather than starting a new thread ...

Currently I'm using an old MS IntelliExplorer 3. Nice mouse, no objections, but of course I an considering to upgrade to something which might improve my gaming. Okay, I know this would rather take a miracle than a new mouse, but anyway ...

I bought myself a Razer Diamondback, and while it might be a fine mouse I discovered that I neglected to consider the software side of things.
The MS drivers are offering different button customization for different applications. And since I'm used to that for several years now I simply can't abandon that.
The Razor drivers apparently don't offer such luxury so I returned the mouse.

Now I'm on the lookout for alternatives.
It should support gaming, but also be a flexible all-rounder with decent software options.
Since MS (to my knowledge) is still using the same kind of drivers I could consider the Sidewinder. Opinions?
I'm under the impression that Logitech also offers similar options, is that correct? (Though I don't really like the look of the G5). Same here: Opinions?
Other recommendations?

I have Razer Deathadder for a month now and i cant complain, great mouse and it fits perfectly in hand. But i think the drivers will be similar to those for Diamondback.

Sidewinder seems to have odd shape and buttons, G5 looks better and somebody here may have it and share his experience (if he didnt so back in this thread).

edit: if you like microsoft mice, what about Microsoft Habu?

Lexi has a Logitech MX1100. Has customizable buttons and dpi, ergonomic and not too expensive. Worth a look.

G5 is a good mouse.. (very similar and the same lazer engine as the MX series)
the Razer Diamondback is an older generation technology and lacks a lot of features that even the cheapest of mice had on the driver side. the newer mice (deathadder/Lachesis/Mamba/Salmosa) use a newer driverset with the 3/3.5g lazer tech youll have appswitching and keymapping on the deathadder, lachesis and mamba..

I would recomend the Deathadder out of the Razer gear.. its a good solid mouse with very good tracking. The drivers are still being updated with new features/fixes and it has everything you need

The G5 is an amazing mouse. but Id wait for the G series price drop as the new set is slowing appearing
The G9 will come down soon as its being replaced by the G9x and that is an increadible mouse if you can get a good price on it!

The MS sidewinder (and the habu for that matter) is a POS! dont touch it with a 10ft pole and most deffinately dont spend your hard earned money on it!
also stay away from Seitek as theyr mice are poor and overpriced (keyboards are nice though)

OCZ have just got a licence from logitech for theyr technology.. meaning youll get a rebranded MX518 with a different logo/price tag and a different GUI but the same driver backend.

Overall.. a mouse is down to what you feel most comfortable with.. ask yourself.. does it fit your hand? does it track naturally to your movements? the rest can and usually is modded to work by the community

Yeah, I have a MX1100R (rechargeable version of the mouse, otherwise identical). I think it's really good, ergonomic and has a decent DPI, one of a very few wireless mice which will be good for gaming.

See, one thing I've fallen in love with and can't imagine living without is that the MS mouse drivers can map the buttons in almost every way differently for every application.
This might seem silly to you, but when you have gotten used to apps executing actions by pressing various buttons over several years this would be a hard thing to lose.

As far as I could see the Razer drivers didn't offer such an option.

The thing with the G5 that drives me half demented is that I only have two sensitivities (Maximum and lower) and it forces me to use TWO buttons to switch between them. I could bind the buttons to something else, but then I'd lose DPI adjustments altogether. (Probably not a problem until I try playing sniper)

Other than that, great mouse.

Yes the deathadder supports appswitching (changing profiles depending on what app you are running)
and the G9 is an awsome mouse if you can get a good price

for sniper you can sort this out with scripts.. come to think of it.. you can have different sensitivity for each class if you want
