I just started playing on Normal. When does the tutorial end? Does it ever? I'm still building alien containment.
Sort of don't like the tutorial, it's gradually giving me control, but I'm never sure how much I'm supposed to be doing for myself and how much its taking care of if you know what I mean. Built another interceptor anyway... Actual game seems like fun tho i'm struggling to get used to it being turn based. Keep dying because people can walk around corners and shoot me in the face. Sort of prefer frynapse in a way, but that's just a personal thing.
Is there any way to know how far and where your troop can see? Or does it just come w/experience?

Basically here's a massive tip: always use overwatch if you don't know where the enemy is and only dash if there is no cover to move to.

Just did one of the missions on my classic game where you have to rescue civvies and there were approx. 9000 chrysalids, 2 cyberdisks (first appearance this game). Whole team got wiped bar one man, there was 1 cyber disk on 1 hp, a drone on 2hp and a chrysalid on 4 hp. Suddenly a new squad of 4 chrysalids turn up. srsly wtf? They can 1 hit most of my team, even with carapace armour. Bastards.

normal finds ways to punish you throughout, and xcom is meant to replayed. I think you'd learn more finishing it on normal first and then go back to classic later. Classic youll just die and you wont learn the long game and youll just have to keep restarting on classic and learning incrementally and I don't think you have the time for that.

just bear in mind that normal is pretty forgiving even though it can still randomly get your colonels one shot killed. You'll never use carapace whatever melee armour on normal theres no point. But on classic you'd probs want the whole squad wearing it on terror missings like terror is doing. And even then its only going to marginally help and you will sstill probably get eaten. So you'll still be learning more of the game when you move up to classic but you'll have no chance in hell of finishing without having some idea of the tech tree and what your ultimate strategic goals are.

Took a kicking on my first encounter with Mutons which nearly killed Brahms and critically injured four of my six man squad (Mama and Hzza double team 4ever).
My tip for the day: feel free early on to give one member most of the kills, since the sooner you get someone to the level where you can unlock six man squad the better.
