Also that's basically what happened to me tez, slids appeared at the end of my turn and swarmed at me. Guess I should have had everyone on overwatch covering or something, or never have a revealing move be the last move I make.

Sort of annoying having to watch what order I move people around in if I'm honest but I guess that's just part of the game.

yeah, it's all part of the strategy of the game. That's how I see it, like if you're going to put someone on overwatch you might as well leave them until last, just in case a new enemy is revealed before the end of your turn.

I wish you could re-assign people before the end of your turn though (like changing from overwatch to moving/firing or in case you accidentally hunker down or use a smoke grenade but I can also see how that could be exploited.

started classic ironman, just survived the first mission with everyone alive. Second mission got a bunch of bullshit deaths and then the last sectoid on 1 hp kills my sniper who was on full health and I fail the mission. RAAAAGEQUIT.

Does make for very gamey mechanics tho. Which is ok because it's still fun, just not very intuitive at times.

Disco: I guess you're just meant to be able to roll with massive RNG issues because hey.. it's xcom classic...

At least you can SEE the aliens before they kill you now. Bullshit in this game has nothing on the original's brand of bullshit when a lone plasma shot flies out of the fog of war on your first turn and one-hits your top rank psychic demigod.

Serious question: How come people liked it? I don't mind hard games but i've never seen a hard game that was randomly unfair that was also popular. Were your individual troops actually p.worthless in the grand scheme of things so you could stand to lose them in random bad luck all the time?

The same reason that the lottery is popular. Humans are naturally very prone togtogether suckered by random rewards (one of the reasons wow is addictive). By having random bullshit you are essentially rewarded when you win against stacked odds, making you feel like the best general in the world, even though you essentially lucked out.

I wish that xcom enemy unknown had random maps, like ufo enemy unknown.

Was just an unlucky mission, my rookies missed 3 50% shots in a row which got most of them killed. Would have kept playing but that sectoid should have died the first time he was hit but somehow the damage got reduced to 2, he dodged a bunch more stuff, then massively puts himself out of position at the end before I can do anything and scores a crit. Just no point continuing that game I deleted the save already. You need a good start and losing my sniper and getting a ton of panic due to bullshit on mission 2? hells no. The aliens are going to fuck me up enough late game.

In classic they're way more accurate, have higher crit chance and cover has much greater effect. Also your soldiers have less health. Get used to it, lol.

I'm sure they do but as this is a game of luck which also requires a good start theres no point playing that game. Would rather just keep restarting till i have an ok first month. And proceed from there.

Sounds like "impossible" mode will be a waste of time...

I think with overall strategy you can counter some of the luck in the tactical game as well as with better equipment and skills but meh either way you need a strong start or the strategic long game will just be screwed and youll lose all your countries and funding and lose. Its like civ 5 really, you can fall behind a bit maybe mid or late game but being behind significantly at the start and theres no point continuing.

Just zoomed in on a convenience store and its playing country music at me. Too bad we are in japan. They internationalized some of the decals but none of the sounds.

Are you sure soldiers have less health terror? I have a few starting on 6 hp, this guy has 75 aim too. Seems like maybe theres just more randomness in how good troops can be when you hire them? Most of mine tend to have 4 and lower aim.

Seems like you can turn off autosave on ironman btw, which totally subverts the point. You can save and quit to save and alt-f4 if something bad happens. I won't be doing this and i'm leaving autosave on but still, what was the point in adding ironman if you can so easily just bypass it without even fiddling with save files.

Restarted and i've had two squad wipes so far on a ufo assault and bomb disposal but the council doesnt seem to give a shit. Worst thing was missing the panic reduction from the bomb mission but i dunno failing abduction just seems worse. Autoend turn is an asshole though, I wiped the enemies on bomb disposal but it wouldnt let my guy disarm a generator diagonally, and it autoended after his second move. Ok I should have moved him up to disarm first but you can disarm after 2 moves, kinda worse than being screwed by the rng instead being screwed by the dumb auto-end not letting me do everything in my turn.

I agree with the auto-end but at the same time I can see it saves a lot of time the majority of the time rather than "do you want to end your go?" every turn.

Pretty sure you start with -1 hp in classic compared to normal.

The game asks you to confirm every action. But not turn end. Its doesn't even conform to their own logic/design.

Entire squad just got wiped in the alien base. Don't actually have anyone left with any experience except for one cpl assault.
