server seems to have come back up. Uploading new snapshot OMGs. This one fixes maps so the zoom craft no longer crashes. And brings together all the new stuff theyve been working on. Basically you need to go to the nether find a new mob, kill lots of them for a specific item, use that to spawn a new boss mob, kill the boss mob get a new rare item from him and use that to build the beacon block which casts aoe buff effects at various distances. I think at max level its a fair number of chunks under the effects. 12x12 chunks or something? http://www.mojang.com/2012/09/minecraft-snapshot-12w36a/Also mobs drop items they stole from you now, pigs drop saddles you put on them and carrot on a stick guides ridden pigs. Also wheat seeds breed chickens now and carrots pigs.

For anyone else wondering it was back up not long after that once I was done tinkering on the new snapshot. New features are looking good although hard to start down the kinda quest root that is building beacon blocks. Bug fixes are all looking good though and the pig stuff. I forgot to mention that map zooming is now fixed, have tested myself and woo, useful maps! finally.

http://www.mojang.com/2012/09/minecraft-snapshot-12w37a/everyone update again please. I might try to slow down on applying the updates over the next few weeks but this one had another round of bug fixes and pumpkin pie which is now officially the best food. Also pigs can now jump when ridden so they are actually useful now.

I'm really envious of people who are just getting into mc... imagine if the first time you played it it had all the crazy stuff it has in it now. Most of us are basically too jaded to actually enjoy it all like we did the first time.

tbh I enjoyed the game wayyy more when it didnt have all that crap. Honestly once they added the dragon and all that enchantment stuff it killed the atmosphere for me, back when we all played it before the game went into beta the game was at its peak for me.

Thats because everyone was playing I think. In general the game has vastly improved but its no good without tons of people on the server, i'm enjoying the new features but its just not the same atmosphere as when everyone on the forums would build random stuff all near spawn and there was some level of community happening on the server.

I dont think its that in my case atleast because I did play the game alot over the last year with some friends from school and we did pull off some good projects but in the end it just wasnt the same game for me anymore. Im sure they have improved the game and fixed alot of needed stuff but for a game that looks like this I like it to be more subtle, back when there were only you, monsters and dungeons, I enjoyed the game the most because it fit its graphicstyle (simple and subtle). Now they might aswell make a new engine and make the game look like Skyrim because thats what its turning into.

Got a group of about 4 who play on it regularly at the moment, easily made it more interesting. If everyone got back into it it'd be great. We ever consider doing some of the mods? Saw this one that I thought looked really interesting: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/253365-132-sspsmp-better-than-wolves-mod-downloaded-more-than-5-times-v411-upd-sept-9/a

have been considering better than wolves for a long time but given that its about a month till the mod api is expected to come out and mods need to switch over to it not really a great time to install stuff. Better than wolves still hasn't added a config either to tweak what you get from it, and hes only just got a mp version up thats full of bugs. Its incompatible with basically every other mod and the author refuses to fix that.
Its still a possibility after the 1.4 update next month but we'd have to be pretty sure we only wanted better than wolves, and he'd have to add compatibility with the api which he seems too lazy to do, he wants people playing only his mod.
