They click the trade button, and the army becomes yours to control. It's a great workaround for the recruitment restriction (you can do it with towns too, so for the cost of a few trade envoys and a bit of trust you can throw an off-colour town and some coins to another player, who uses the coins to recruit the unit and trades both back to you).

As for the fay front, no.

I bring news from the great northern clans, it is a grim day that saw many a grudge recorded as the defenders of goat dale fell, despite being led by one of our greatest heros smithsbane. A lone cyclops was all that stood standing after my boys were done, but that was enough. The deep roads echo with a low dirge in mourning.

In the east however my people see glory unwitnessed since grimnak trollslayer, a new general known as smithsward (a much more fitting name in a much more fitting place) has held ore town despite assaults larger than that dead failure smithsbane ever saw. In the taverns the people already sing of him, greatest of dwarves after a single days bloodbath. And what a bloodbath, thanks to some new recruits courtesy of our human allies coin and the completion of ore towns mighty fortress his armies felled 145 zombies and stood their ground to a man. Not a single drop of dwarven blood fell on ore town this day. Smithsward true to his name has held our iron, our forges, our best distillerys, and our beard salons. The beat of the hammers and the roar of our forges grows deafening soon the dwarves will march under smithsward, soon we will slaughter every last gobbo on the planet and any zombies we find too.
