I read pretty much the same thing on the Steampowered forums unsurpisingly. Yes, it's all logical as long as you take one thing for granted: That Valve cares for what people do with their items. As in, they would sit in a corner and cry if they knew, that someone sold a hat to someone on e-bay for whatever price that is, instead of just trading the item ingame for no money. And I don't see a reason for Valve to care just HOW the items get traded, except for: they want a slice off it. Simple as that.

If someone sells ingame items for money this has nothing to do with Valve. The items don't have any monetary value in itself, it's the TIME that you have to spend to obtain them, that is valuable to people, apparently. The game is FREE TO PLAY, though, and everyone is welcome to spend as much time on it as they want, that's the main difference from WoW. The whole point of WoW is that you spent a lot of time to get what you want and that you PAY blizzard money for that. As such, time is free, items are free, trading would get everyone whatever they wanted, be it through trading ingame or buying them from ebay or whatever. No involvement of Valve necessary.

Let alone the fact, that the items were purely cosmetic and with absolutely no effect on the actual gameplay. Until they introduced the shop, that is.

Bottom line: screw the shop.

Also: who cares about the shop, really? If people swim in money, good for them. What's bad are the side effects of the shop and the whole stuff that comes with it, which I already explained earlier.

Yes, and because of that they have waited years before introducing something like that. And they did it in TF2 because it's so much more popular than, let's say CS. And it's probably just an oversight that they haven't canceled crafting and trading which give people the chance to get all the items without the store.

I figure if people are going to sell valve's items, it might as well be valve. Likewise, I like that the polycount creators get a cut- to be fair, it could be higher than the current 25%, but it's more than 0% from a private market.

I don't know if I should waste a lot of time on your "response", but here goes:

If they introduced the shop from the beginning and make it the same way for the first class updates, no one would play this game as long as we did, which is my whole point. I don't even know if I would even buy a game if it was a standalone product with with 6 maps and an item shop, if they even had anything to sell at that time... This shop is NOT a good thing for this game (and probably for future Valve products if it goes well and it will, because people are dumb), that's all I'm saying.

As for why wait for so long: to even have a slight chance on actually selling anything, they HAD to bring in the new items and they HAD to make them special and they HAD to introduce them at the same moment as the shop, because otherwise people would just get them the same way we did it for YEARS - with random drops and crafting (and now also with trading). Can you imagine anyone paying money for a kritzkrieg now (except if it's in a crate )?

Just tell me ONE thing that the shop does, if not making Valve money? What are the reason for this shop in YOUR opinion? That it is a test? Test for selling items in a game for real money, maybe?

If you ask me, the moment you give a virtual item a monetary value as THE ONLY SOURCE for this items, you're not making the problem of unauthorized trading better, you're making it worse. If you do that, you have a specific price and from that point on, it's just about getting that items for a lower price or for free (well, or buying it for the set price from the official vendor, of course). With this action you are asking for the "underground market", you're asking for people scamming each other and you're asking for a lot of moaning and whining. It's not like the prices in the shop are all that cheap. I spent more on a single translation (gift package), than I spent on the game itself, so I don't see how it would stop any selling of items for lower prices that Valve has, which they are allegedly trying to prevent with their shop?

Let me try some sarcasm for ya. They spent years working on the shopping and trading system (I guess from the moment they introduced random drops or earlier, if I'm to believe hawts theory). They developed all the background code, put up servers, worked out the pricing system and the items to go with it. Surely, it's all just a test, which will disappear in short future and never come up again.

Well actually I can see a new player thinking 29p for a Krtiz sounds great because hes sick of not having one. The shop is not a test about having one not having one. Its a test about what people are willing to pay for and how much money valve can make without pissing too many people off. It is all horribly overpriced at the moment though.
