I liked the endings.
I didnt. They were terrible and didnt fit into the awesome game and story that came beforehand. Felt like they came close to releasedate and just came up with some stupid philosophy stuff that makes you feel smart (what disco said). Theres too many questions left open when the game is over and that shouldnt happen in a game where you have the ability to know everything about a story/character if you want to. The end was like "Ha, expect to see all the details? Well screw you heres some stock footage of railways followed by credits, lol gtfo". This works in movies, NOT in a game!

Also why doesn't it work in games?

I liked that it moved away from moral choice systems which you only ever get a good ending and a bad ending, and the ending kept in theme with the rest of the game, meaning you could do what you like. Also like that they move away from the Silent Hill style ending, meaning that one dumbass thing you did right at the beginning of the game doesn't determine you towards a shit ending regardless of what you do.

It doesnt work because this is a game where you can basically do whatever you want and get to know every detail if you want. So lets imagine you did that for 40 hours of gametime: you come to the ending and all of the sudden it teases you with stuff and leaves you on an unfinished note. I felt bullshitted by that, theres games that can pull that off (if they have a clear sequel coming which I dont see one for this) but this is a free-to-explore-do-whatever-you-want-RPG. Also I was really disappointed about the "nothing you do affects the ending"-route, why did they do that? All it does was throwing all the hard work youve done into the dumpster and letting you decide an ending that couldve been absolutely contradictory to EVERYTHING you did beforehand (Fallout 3 and NV were perfect because they gave you an individual ending containing all the choices you made throughout the game, this felt like it ignored you completely and just assumed you are a good or a bad guy only depending on which button you press at the end). It made me so angry that I havent played it since, its a shame because everything before that stupid last bit was amazing and some of the best "piece of game" I ever played.

Thing is with so much in the game it would of been impossible to determine a logical ending. What else could they of done?

Maybe my ending expectations have been forever smashed by KotOR2.

Fallout managed it and Deus Ex:HR has a much more linear plot with your choices having effect on just minimal stuff throughout the storyline. They could have easily gone the individual-ending route on that. Not that I say it needed that, I just wanted an ending that judged my performance, but it didnt, the only thing it judged is your button-pressing-skills in the end.

I don't think that Deus Ex is really about narrative choices though, even the first one, the actual plot was fixed, it's about gameplay choices (which is, in my opinion, more legit. They just shouldn't have the stupid choose your own ending then go back to your save and choose the other ones)

I thought the entire ending was a bit sketch. I wasn't that bothered about the lack of closure though.

But yeah, I agreed. After the first mission everybody tells you how well (mostly how non-killing) you did, after that nobody ever seems to comment again, felt weird.

I also felt let down by the lack of previous decisions affecting available choices. Throughout my playthrough I had been totally non-lethal and convinced 2 guys not to commit suicide.
so how does my jenson then justify completely ignoring the character development I put into him and acting in a totally retarded manner committing both mass murder and suicide in what is basically an insane suicide bombing. Perhaps if i'd played that way in the game and developed him towards that end the option should be there but it made no sense for my jenson to be capable of doing something so horrible.

Massive plot hole with that ending too, Eliza says there will be noone left to spin things if you blow everyone up, but like even poor dense jensen knows that the illuminati and bob page will still control picus and the media spin even more so without a message from panchea. Eliza could be trying to manipulate you for majestic 12 but bob page was the one after megans research along with control over darrows in the first place so it makes no sense for him to want everything blown up, and he could just order Eliza to alter the message at will if she really was lying to Jensen

Well if you don't want to break character development then just don't do it.
Giving you the choice prevents shitty stuff like "remember the one time you accidentally threw a frag grenade and killed a civilian? NO GOOD ENDING FOR YOU BOY, BETTER ROLL A NEW CHARACTER!"

I just couldn't believe my jensen was even considering it I wanted him to shout WTF NO. And you could have brought about the ending choices through a combination of dialogue and actions, again it just seems lazy of them to take the safe route and make all options available, maybe it was a feature they just couldn't finish in time for release.

Choice is ok though, I just loathe the existence of the 4th ending, why is it there. The 3 proper choices were nice shades of grey with meaning the 4th was an insane tangent.

@ Disco, I can't help but feel Deus Ex Human Revolution (aka DEHR) is hamstrung in terms of plot because it is a prequel. The grey death plague and urban decay still needs to be the outcome if it is to fit in with the start of the original Deus Ex story line.

Although I haven't finished DEHR yet, I'm wondering where this plot is going....

Interesting point. Would also like to hear your thoughts when you're done. Smiley

There are various little points throughout the story (details in cutscenes, email, ebooks) etc. which nod towards where the story is headed, but I didn't feel that it went out of its way to set up for the later games. That said... stick around for the credits. Wink
