eh you can work around that if you try though. Theres a 25 year period in between for jensen to become obsolete and retire or get killed because hes old, sarif to turn evil or eventually lose to the illuminati. For the augment crisis to end and nanotech to develop while social issues become those in dx1. Its also typical to choose a canon ending so you can be a bit more free with the others, ok canon ending also removes some of the value of your choice because if you make a different choice then you make it so dx1 never happens but its your game and your playthrough you can end it how you like.
As far as I can tell they haven't named an official canon ending yet so maybe the 4th bullshit ending gives them the option of picking that and ending the prequels, or picking one of the sensible endings and picking up from there. But either way I don't think it justifies the ending problems to such a great game, and I think the same problems with recognising player choice is reflected in the boss fights not recognising non-lethal play. I really really love the game its just so frustrating to have these two blemishes that are the only things stopping it being a perfect game for me.

They should pull a William Gibson and have their next Deus Ex be set in the present day.

Disco, considering that you're a tank driving nut.. I agree.
Great game, which could have been simply fantastic but for a few inconsistencies. Take away the boss fight issue, and could you forgive it for crap endings?

i think the endings would still frustrate me because then it would be the only issue holding it back from perfection and worse it'd be right at the end.

Just finished.. wasn't so bad on the ending front. The narrative does change depending upon choice. Sense of loss now it's finished and done with... ... truly epic game.... just needed a little extra to be all conquering Will have to wait a while before I replay....

So turns out the boss fights were done by another company according to RPS ( http://bit.ly/pxKgNb) That must really suck to be that company after all you hear in reviews for the game is: 'Game was amazing, but the boss fights sucked' ALL DAY LONG. You can imagine people going to visit them: 'Oh, so I heard you worked on DX:HR' 'Yeah that's right.' 'Which bit did you do?' 'The boss fights' 'Oh' *runs away*

Doesnt surprise me. They felt so misplaced in this otherwise awesome and wellmade game.

I really don't get it. How much time did they save by outsourcing 4 rooms?
Boss 1 and 3 didn't even do anything special, they just were normal soldiers with more health.

To be fair, the final boss did have SOME stuff that allowed you to use an alternative approach. Not much though.

the final boss was just as dumb, the difficulty curve which spiked horribly on the first 3, just took a nose dive from the start of the final section and through the boss fight. I was so augged up by that point that it didn't have any challenge to it. The other bosses actually had more choice but just because you could creatively break them. Spoilers for fight 3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4v1X5F0d58Ihttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWF24OGMYvsIts interesting that you can actually use a melee there through glitching or prep the field, but those things should be part of the design not a way people broke the game.
