Have only ever made profit on one car, an MG Metro of all things. 

At least if you buy a cheap car if it dies expensively (like my Fiesta) or you crash you don't have to feel you have to keep repairing it and do "the drive (or tow) of shame" to the scrapyard.

Looked a Ford Ka and a Renault Grand Espace today being sold buy the same guy.  The Ka was a rough part ex but drove ok.  The Grand Espace was massive, I liked it but again, a bit rough, especially for £2000.  The garage guy also told us our Zafira's cam belt changed had been buggered up and we should sell it.  Quick.
