I spent a summer selling double glazing on the phone. That was fun.

We tried to do that once. We even walked around the drive through and everything. But they wouldn't serve us because we weren't in a vehicle. Believe me - that would have been the worst thing to be doing! We ended up asking some DJ who worked at the strip-joint (or gentleman's club) to buy stuff for us because he was on his way home.

Oh this is nice I didn't know that we have one more waiter in WDG. Anyway listen from my experiance it's impossible to get an understanding from people who never "felt the magic" of waitering or anykind of physical job. It's a hard job mentally and physically. Once you stop being prepared for all sorts of profiles it's time to move on. I'm on the edge that's way I'm changing my job soon I've done the waitering thing, it wasn't that bad and it lead to a job on the Channel Tunnel. I've also done door to door sales, that was truly awful, you have to be a special kind of person to do the cold calling thing.

I used to do silver service waiting when I was about 16, It sucked. One time the plates were superheated and I found out about half way through the room that I didn't have enough napkins to protect my hands/arms properly. Worst 40 yard walk of my life, trying to maintain a smile and steady walk without dropping everything whilst my flesh cooks. On the upside there was a fair amount of down time doing shit but easy stuff like polishing the silverware, laying up or potwashing where you could have a laugh with the other guys. We also got plenty of decent stuff to eat.

Fucking cutlery, cutlery can piss right off, rather be carrying plates than doing cutlery. Rather be serving on the bar though. I guess being a waiter varies on how good the pay is and where you work, also whether your boss is a dick or not.

I had a couple of winters doing agency work in a trifle factory, repetitive work but pay was pretty good and the time passed quite quickly because there were a few other people to chat with. Co-Workers are the most important aspect of any job.

Agree on this, last job I had was a waiter and the fact that I had a friendly boss and good co-workers made it really good fun.
