You should be thanking your lucky stars that it isn't a subscription tbh.

blizzard might be greedy now that they have merged with ativi$ion but they're not stupid. you can't charge subscription for what will be primarily an offline game.

Perhaps they could charge for the multiplayer function alone, and many people would pay but realistically it would just hurt the community as most people wouldn't pay or play that function anyway, and it would prevent new people from joining.

starcraft multiplayer doesn't have the crack quality that WoW has that would get people addicted. It's constant competition against other people and not the collection and grinding that keeps people playing a game and gets you psychologically hooked.

All you need is hats at a slow trickle, tf2 and transformice have already tricked me with that into playing many boring hours! At least I wasn't paying for the privilege of slowly killing myself though.

This game will be huge.

There were several money tournaments for the release of the beta. The beta for godsakes! At the moment there is a $3000 ($2k for 1st, $1k for second) prize pool tournament coming to it's conclusion (casted replays).

Again this is in it's beta! Brood War is the most successful esports game in the world, I fully expect Starcraft 2 to be just as good. If you buy Starcraft 2 I think you are severely missing out if you don't want to play multiplayer.

If you think you  suck, just try and get better. I never played the original Starcraft, yet I was doing OK in the beta for a total noob in rts in general.

the matchmaking is good, but I mean for me it never goes beyond the fun of either building up my pretties (not a good strategy) or beating someone in competition. I'm not really willing to put in hundreds of hours of endless keyboard shortcuts to mine a limited amount of fun (sounds like wow). By contrast I prefer coop games lately where I am contributing to a team effort (in various helpful and unhelpful ways) and having lols. I still play things like tf2 because it gives me small victories and when I am having a bad shooty day I can still contribute to the team/relax/grind hats. In SC2 you never had a chance to savour the small victories, if I spend too long with an attack watching them mop up i'm doing it wrong and my base has ceased production. I feel rushed to the end and then theres just many many stats on how i could have done it better.

Love single player rts, but multiplayer is just way too much effort for a game for me to have fun. Too many things to concentrate on, I prefer Kill that scout, then kill that soldier etc

Not that I'm a massive starcraft head, but it's not like people go on and on about the single player.

rts multiplayer sucks, micro is boring. I've played hundreds of rts and its one of my favorite types of game but i can say, without any shadow of a doubt, that not one has been fun to play online.

Your reasoning for why the game will be good is because people compete at it? that is the wrong argument to use for me buddy, i despite any sort of competitive videogame play. Competitive play sucks the fun right out of a game.

I wouldn't say it totally sucks, and I do think i'm missing out in some way. Its just not for me. That said I would play coop with people or lols customs games with wdg people who suck as much as me

I can think of a few RTS games that I've enjoyed playing online.

One of them is definitely Company of Heroes.
As was AI War (which we need to finish btw) but is co-op only.

@disco: I like the intensity of it, I'm a very active thinker and I like being pressured against another opponent. Not all the time, but most of the time. Think we're from different realms in this field

yeah, karrigan. She gets left on a planet by the dominion

Karrigan then gets captured by the zerg and transformed into the queen of blades, a big part of the zerg campaign. She is also the only leader of the zerg left after the overmind is killed at the end of the protoss campaign. The she leads the zerg through the brood war expansion and forms a short alliance with the terrans against the human fleet that arrives from earth. That's her in the trailer for SC2, the one woman who decloaks and fights the aliens

also in my anti MP rage is forgot 2 RTS that are good online, comapny of heros and world in conflict. Though not standard RTS they are actually pertty good to play. WiC especially because you have to play it as a team and get different classes.

nope, did i say everyone? read again, i used I quite a bit in there. Plus if you can have an opinion based purely on opinion then surely so can i
