While i agree that the AC2 drm is worse on the whole since the game is completely single-player, the c&c4 stuff is still pretty shit given that you can lose unsaved progress while playing the single-player portion if your internet drops. EA stated that there would be no drm for this game (somehow they mustn't have considered this to be drm) then they changed their tune when people called them out on it.
It's also annoying since I was actually considering getting this game, whereas I don't give a shit about AC2.

The lead designer spoke about this in the rps interview, I bet Jim Sterling thinks he awesome for uncovering this (really starting to hate his guts).

I don't get this impression from the post I linked to at all, the point of the article was that you will lose progress if your connection drops (it's even in the title), this wasn't mentioned in the rps interview. I don't see how you got the impression that Sterling thinks he uncovered this, he plainly credits the "folks at PC Gamer" with finding the information. Did you even read the article?

Is there any particular reason you hate Jim Sterling, or is it just because he's "smelly"?

I don't think I have enough evidence to convince others hes a jerk atm, I just don't like him, his attitude or his articles. He just comes across as a bit of a dick, even when he has a good point to make hes a dick about it. I read it after posting so whoops, but its still an inflammatory piece about old news but bleh lets ignore my i hate jim bias until I can explain why in 2000 words or more .

Back to topic, I'm less bothered after finding out about it because from everything i've heard about c&c4 its utterly appalling and not worth getting anyway and doesn't even do the story justice so this saves me from agonising over whether to buy it or not. Its also one blip for a game which has a legitimate reason for being online and preventing you from messing with your saves (I think? They weren't too clear about why they needed to stop you from jumping up the tech tree?). EA have a pretty decent track record for DRM atm. while they could have handled this one better I'm pretty sure they were shitting themselves after they saw AC2 take the heat; EA know whats its like to be hurt on sales because of DRM so I guess I just trust them in the long run to generally make the right choices regarding DRM, Dragon Age for instance where there is none and they see pirates as a DLC market. Compared to Ubi who see their DRM as core to all their new games and forever putting a stop to piracy forever.

I'll agree that EA haven't been as bad in recent years, they used to have a reputation close to what Activision do now, as a kind of big evil corporation. But this drm is still enough to stop me from buying a game that I would have otherwise considered.

have you checked any reviews dodgy? I mean its no substitute for playing yourself and I'm probably going to look for a demo to check for myself but the consensus is its really really not worth it.

I didn't intend to get it at launch anyway, it was mainly for the story that I wanted it. I know that the story is awful and tacky but it was a series that I grew up playing and I would have liked to see how it ended for nostalgia purposes. I'll probably end up reading a synopsis or watching the cutscenes on youtube.

Wow, that is a confusing game mode, but I love the way you had to mimic a pretty brain-dead NPC - certainly quite unique, I don't recall many other games doing this, although Spy Party is a recent game that made me grin ear to ear.

Not that it'll necessarily be entirely fun - we'll have to see.

Ahh, The Ship, that game I somewhat was half interested to play Yeah, I guess it is pretty much like that.
