this proves you dont need a case... set it up outside and off you go
You may have to jump start your mobo though

Its also a lot more fun for techies
I have 1 of them I use to test my new builds when I do them... theyr awsome!!!
just have to be careful with dust or everything dies!

But seeing as your not a techie you might want a case..

The antec 900 will be discontinued soon as they have the 900v2 now..
Id recomend any of these... the shops are good service too

if you ordered it all in 1 go its best to call them up and ask whats going on.. otherwise none of it will come till its all in stock

Yeah, I didn't make that very clear! I ordered most of it from Overclockers with a few bits from Scan and the DVD drive from somewhere else. The OC'ers stuff and the DVD drive are on route, the Scan stuff will be out on the 10th.

You could call scan and ask them to send it seperately if you wish... I have done this countless times and they usually offer the later stuff for free

Yeah, I did think about it, but as it's the PSU I'm waiting for, doesn't really seem much point! Plus, it'll cost P&P again! I don't mind the wait, makes it that bit more exciting when it does (finally) come.

Mode is right in that type 0 is for performance not redundancy. Different types of raid require different numbers of drives and offer various levels of performance and redundancy.

Where redundancy means the ability to recover data should a drive in the array fail.

Ok,

cut holes in the motherboard tray and other places in the case so you can hide as much of the cable mess as possible, the more cable in your case the more heat that cant be removed by airflow!

I usually get some masking tape and place it around the mobo (attatched to the mobo tray not the mobo) and mark where all of the cables need to end up (like the FP cables, power cables, usb cables, fw cables, HDD cables ect) and cut an appropriate sized hole and then file it down so the cables arent damaged with a bit of push and pull.

As for reversemodding the hard drives, you need to make sure you can mount the hard drives backwards (cables pointing towards the front, not inside) to hide the cables and again improve airflow. This one is a bit more complex but all it really takes is some creativity and confidence.

Im starting a new build once I have sold all of my extra bits and I will be making some tutorials for this kinda thing. Modding a build for me is the most fun part of building. I want to make tutorials for everything from adding a dust filter to your fans to the more advanced stuff like reversemodding ect..

Also.. RAID stands for Redundant Array of Indipendant/Inexpensive Disks. RAID is basically making a number of hard drives work together as 1 volume in the OS. RAID0 is when 2 or more HDDs half of the information each (to put it very simply) making them seem to work almost twice as fast asif they were 2 seperate volumes. The advantage of this is speed, but the dissadvantage is security. If 1 drive fails in a RAID0 array then all data is lost (some softwares can retrieve lost data but its not assured).
In contrast, RAID1 uses the same hard drives but 1 mirrors the other, so they both hold the same information. Read speed is improved but write speed remains the same. Again speed is an advantage here but security is more effective!

There are a bunch of other RAID types (RAID5,6,10 ect..) but these are the most common as they are easily achievable on most modern motherboards without buying an expensive RAID card

its as unstable as your hard drives... I have only ever had Hitachi Deskstars fail on me in RAID0.. It doesnt put much extra stress on them.. (thats why I pointed you towards the WD drives as theyr ace for the cash)

As for setup its easypeasey! there should be a step by step guide in the mobo manual. with the ICH9/10R controller Vista doesnt even ask for drivers for it, so once you have set it up, its business as usual

Also, Airflow is one of the most important things when building a PC. Airflow removes heat and heat destroys parts! if you want it to last, make sure it runs cool and the best FREE way to do this is spend a little more time setting it up
