I had the exactly same problem. I used a vacuum cleaner around the fan, but never get around exchanging dried out cooler paste.

Right now, as stupid it may look, I'm using two books to lift the laptop from the table approx. 7-10cm.

Before that, the fan exhaust would just throw out the warm air, creating a "bottleneck" between the laptop and the table - because of the 0,5-1cm distance.

Just had my laptop open, cleaned out a ridiculous amount of dust from between the fan and heatsink, and cleaned off the processor and replaced the thermal material with some arctic silver left over from my desktop build. Certainly running quieter so far, we'll see how it is over time. Smiley

everyone i knew at uni had a laptop and sat in their room with it plugged in at a desk... I don't understand how laptops still make sales. Just get a tablet or go on facebook on your smartphone if you must be a hipster. And have a tower for real computing.

Well no-one with a head could argue laptops = value for money
but for comfort, convenience and for enabling gaming whilst being sociable, it's the bizz.

I use it almost every day and so far have had no problems.

I <3 my laptop 

(also reckon using a tablet with a cat sat on your lap is harder too)

People like laptops because you can move them around with minimal hassle. Tablets still have crappy keyboards and are quite overpriced considering the only one really worth a damn is the iPad.
