I don't really dig the shooty bits, but on the other hand this is a true RPG and I didn't invest any skill points into any weapons except for the pistol (which is freaking devastating by now). I'm trying to play it like a stealth game and it works really well. Story is pretty good, but I don't think I'm at the point yet where I can really tell who is screwing me over and who is my friend. Like the talky system, where you have to decide what to say really really quickly. Wish I could see what my character is actually about to say, instead of just the mood, which isn't always seem to relate to what is being said. Messes up some of the moments for me, but there is always a replay with different options...

Yeah, AP is both awesome and horrible at once.

If you want to completely break the combat system all you need to do is invest in toughness (So much health the UI has problems showing it, plus abilites to resist damage/resurrect yourself), assault rifles and technical aptitude (better healing, making you even tankier, more damage, better armor). The fights just stop being a challenge completely.
If you hate hacking (took me a while to figure out how it really works), take the first skill in sabotage, you can carry enough emps to "hack" all important computers.

Yeah, talking is pretty weird sometimes. When in doubt, use professional, most people are fine with that.

I heard stealth is pretty shitty against bosses, is that true?

Oh and the amount of different endings is staggering. I looked up what other people got when I was finished and they were like: x was fighting with me, x was fighting against me, x was against me but I could convince him to give up. For me it was: x didn't even show up for me, I was certain that was left open for the sequel.

I really should finish my second playthrough.

I didn't try stealth against bosses, so I can't say. I don't see how it would be helpful in any way, can you even take the bosses out with a takedown move? Didn't have trouble fighting bosses so far, just with the pistol (chain shot) and good use of cover. Konstantin (the disco guy) was a pain in the ass though, I had to run away a lot. ^^ Don't really like the fact that the boss fights are even there, kind of breaks the flow of the game when there is suddenly a huge health bar and you don't get the chance to talk it over first (or am I approaching them wrong or something?).

Tadaa, I'm back. The last couple of weeks I played too many games for about 10 minutes, thanks to the Steam sale... now I have 47 games installed, that I have to finish and delete to never touch again.

Still haven't finished Alpha Protocol but will totally do it, if I remember the plot. Other than that, I returned to LoL for a day and it was fun again. Some TF2 and BF3 but yeah, not worth talking about.

Today I returned to the Beta of Tribes Ascend and I think I'm slowly "getting" this game. I don't remember playing much of the older games in the series so it took a while to click with me. This game unique in two ways. First it's all about movement as in keeping momentum. It's not that hard to master as in older games, but it's absolutely vital. The second thing is, this is one of the few games where every weapon uses projectiles, some of them very fast, so it's really close to hitscan, but most of them you have to lead your target quite a bit, so it makes it much more satisfying if you shoot someone in the face, while both of you are flying trough the air on top speed.

Just got enough tokens to unlock the next class, let's see if it plays totally different or what.. Enjoying this game now.

I don't want this to seem to be updated less regularly than Tommys non-smoking blog, I just really don't play that much currently for some reason. Anyway, I finally finished Alpha Protocol yesterday and started a new game of it right away. I think the game can offer a lot new stuff to see on the second playthrough, especially with the new dialogue options and different choices this way around. This time I will just murder everyone I can.

I finished Cave Story(+) recently, amazing game, would recommend anyone check it out (it's free to download or about 99p on Steam). Most of my gaming is done on laptops in hospital waiting rooms/my parents house these days which is shit, but also means I get to go through my massive "indie" backlog. Cthulu Saves the World is a brilliant old school RPG, I'm still loving Recettear and Chantelise and Jamestown and RenOps are good for when you have a long waiting room wait ahead of you. Football Manager is a good waste of 7/8 hours and is also a great game to play whilst feeding a baby.

When I am at my computer I'm usually working, but when I'm not I'm playing 3 or 4 crazy hoard shooters; I'm about 7/8 through Hard Reset which is shit but good for 15 minutes of crazyness, which is also why I'm about 1/4 through Serious Sam HD which is better but harder (I did my usual thing of starting on the hardest difficulty and now I'm stuck). I'm also trying to finish Dead Space 2 but my aim with analogue sticks has gotten terribad and leads to frequent ragequits.

One day I might start gaming online again, but I doubt it.

In the time it took you to write it you could totally shoot at least 3 people online! Smiley

EDIT: Also I tried the demo for this: http://store.steampowered.com/app/102500/ which is fairly generous (about 1 1/2 hours of playtime). Seems to go somewhat into Gothic area, but it's by EA, so it's a bit of a Swords&Conversations type of the game, except with a real-time fighting/magic system. Seems interesting for what it is. Even if the demo is long, I suspect you only see a little part of the world map, so it could become pretty epic in the end. Will buy in the sale, just to check it out.

I've been playing Alice: Madness Returns.

It's beautiful to look at with some great imagery, quite dark as well (some people felt the storyline disturbing, it's certainly adult), but sometimes the controls aren't quite right...they don't seem to respond quickly enough in combat or for manoeuvring...in parts it's a platform game. I think it would probably be easier to play with a controller. Save points aren't always best placed as well.

The most irritating section are these 2D platforming sections where you side scroll...annoying mainly because sometimes the camera angle doesn't allow you to see where you're going so you end up launching yourself awkwardly into a void.

Still it's a good game, and apart from the relatively conventional game mechanics, tries to do something different in it's approach. Probably worth buying in a sale.

Currently playing this.
Somewhere I read that the demo was outsourced, that's why it was riddled with bugs. But the full game is definitely enjoyable. I'd recommend playing it with a controller, as the camera/movement is non-traditional compared to most wRPG.

It's a shame that the developers went bankrupt, 'cause it had the potential to be a great rpg franchise.

It's a decent game, you might get bored if you try to do everything like I did, as you outlevel a lot of the sidequests pretty quickly and they reuse interior areas somewhat (not as badly as DA2 did thankfully).

Also as zetashift said the developers went under so there's not gonna be any more DLC other than the piratey one they managed to release.
