Continuing the theme of threads with 120 in the title line, I get my bonus at the end of the month and want to get a 120hz monitor so that all the games I don't have time to play look extra epic.
24" would be ideal and I don't really want to spend more then £250ish. As with most things, I have no clue what I'm looking at when I look at spec sheets so I need someone to tell me what's good. I was looking at an LG W2363D, but its 23" and cheap so I'm suspicious...
Help me WDG.

difficult to get 24" any more, you can only get 16:9 1920x1080 panels rather than the full 16:10 1920x1200, and the 1080p panels fit into 23" better.

Isn't 120Hz only for 3D? As in it runs at 60Hz unless it's in 3D mode? Does 120Hz mean you only get half the frame-rate as it has to render stuff twice as fast?
My monitor is 24" and 1920x1080p zarf - don't think they're that uncommon.

I have no idea on the technical side deadly, but from what I've heard 120hz monitors are unbelievably good for gaming.

Nah 120Hz runs at 120 Hz as long as the refresh rate is set at 120. Also you should be playing TF2 at a steady framerate of 120 fps anyway.

Fuck knows how they work, I've played on a couple now and they feel super crisp. I think because it refreshes twice as fast, it display's all the frames that are being rendered but aren't being displayed, so you're not straining your graphics card anymore, you're just seeing the frames that wouldn't usually be displayed. Or something.
Plus, someone I know might be looking to get shot of some nVidea 3D shit for the super cheap and I may or may not be interested...

As long as your pc can play tf2 at 120 fps+ yeah a 120 Hz monitor will show you twice as many frames while the 60Hz will skip almost half of them. Not sure how many games I could run at 120+ though. Just cause 2 I have on pretty high settings and its struggling around 50 so you wouldn't see any improvement at all there.

I know.
I'd love a new monitor, all crisp and clean. I've got a dual monitor set-up at the moment, one is ok but the other is a bit crap.

I'm crazy skeptical about 120hz monitors given the fact that I can't run anything except teef at those kind of FPS. Wonder if people could really tell the difference in a blind side by side test? 60 vs 120?

I've got geeky fingers crossed for a 3D screen that doesn't require glasses to be worn over my glasses. Now that would be a monitor I'd want

Isn't the monitor refresh rate one of the main causes of eye-strain? I guess if you use your computer a lot that might be quite important.
