I had intermittent problems with a PC running 4GB of ram once, memtest was fine with either stick in either slot, but both together had faults. Disabling dual channel mode fixed it.

Sandy Bridge isn't especially memory bandwidth limited, thanks to DDR3 already being pretty beefy. Going from single to dual channel is worth less than 5% performance in most cases (especially games)

I had a RAM issue once that I fixed by simply swapping the sticks over. Somehow the exact combination of slot and stick was completely messing things up, and haven't had an issue with them since.

I have a problem where my pc sometimes only recognises 4 of the 6Gb, I've tried swapping them around in the slots and it seems to fix it for a couple of days and then it goes back to being intermittent again Sad

I had this problem! You have an i5/i7 right? The memory controller is on the cpu - try reseating your CPU and heatsink. (it happened to me when there was uneven pressure on the cpu from the heatsink).

You can also reset the memory controller by turning your pc off, removing *all* of the RAM, powering it on, powering it off (after it's stopped doing anything), putting the RAM back in and powering it back on again.

have you tried running http://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed btw? I'm still having stop errors myself. Confirmed its not my memory or hdd. It something to do with the video card switching modes and then shitting itself. Most commonly happening when I have say a video in memory and a game to be fair. Then I can't boot up for awhile :/ need to check my gfx temps, am lazy. Sorry for mini hijack but hopefully whocrashed is helpful to other people too
