70 pounds for a keyboard, you guys are fucking insane.

I bought my lycosa for about £50 - which is probably what I would have spent this time again. £100 is way too much for me for a keyboard. Sounds like these mechanical keyboards are virtually indestructable though - so hoping it should last me a long time.

Well you see, I have a different line of thinking there. With the price of 10 GBP I don't give a damn if my keyboard dies after a couple of months, I could buy five more of those and still be under 60 GBP. Hell I killed at least 4 keyboards by SPEEEEELING MY DREEENK on them and I would bite myself in the ass if I'd kill a 70 pound keyboard that way.

I don't see how there can be anything in that piece of hardware that is worth 60 quid more than what I have right now. Sure, they put some gold in there, so it's indestructible now or whatever, but otherwise it looks like a normal keyboard to me. It doesn't even seem to have any special keys?

The reason mechanical keyboards are so much more expensive is because of the 100 or so mechanical switches - each one has a spring, contacts and stuff that's a lot more 'stuff' than a normal keyboard which just has a mat of contacts underneath the keys.

I have to agree with Power here.. I spilled a pot noodle on my Logitech (came with pc) and it's still standing strong. I think the only reason to get a 'gaming keyboard', in my eyes, is to show it off @LAN. And maybe some extra buttons or something.

I'm inclined to think 'gamer' keyboards are mostly overpriced trash and you should stay away. The only time it's worth, imo, getting an expensive keyboard is if it's mechanical. Other retarded features like backlit keys (who stares at their keyboard?), multiple profiles and 'ergonomic etc etc' are mostly gimmicks and things to sucker you in.

The difference between mechanical is that their far more responsive and generally more reliable. You can feel when a key has registered rather than the cheap keyboard's you get that sometimes give up and feel kinda weak.

Then again, it's just a keyboard. Mechanical or not I can't justify spending anything over £20 on a keyboard unless I had a really good reason.

Also Lister why did you get a pot noodle with your computer and why did you spill it on your keyboard? )))

Quite fond of my Original G15, still going strong after 5 years. The LCD is useful and well supported, Keys are backlit, and there are plenty of macro keys (which can even be programmed in-game)
At £40 it doesn't even seem unreasonably priced compared to modern ones.

Mech keyboards are generally more reliable as in keys per minute, though I think their fluids resistance is worse than a decent quality dome membrane.

The reason I spent £40 on mine (Cherry.. mx 4000? It's got Blue keyswitches) was that a) I write novels on it and b) I'm not a spazz who spills his drink into his keyboard so it'll probably last me another decade or so.

Left handed - so anything like that is totally useless. Plus I need a keyboard - otherwise I can't type anything. Don't really fancy doing some uber macroing/shift-keying so I can type with an n52

So glad you didn't get that Razer mech, its a POS by all accounts, only has 2KRO as well .

SS one is supposed to be pretty badass too, would be interested to hear what you think.

I bought a Roccat Arvo, but only because I had expiring vouchers to burn.  I'd recommend it if you don't mind shelling out.

My mech came today, its sooooooo beautiful to type on. Unfortunatly, Mrs Hzza is being a bitch and won't let me have it until my birthday next week so won't be able to judge it properly until then .
