I have an aging but excellent Iiyama 17" ProLite E430 Monitor and a 1Gb Ati Radeon 5770, every so often I get a white screen that no amount of restarting will fix.
I've tried the latest Ati drivers with no success and the monitor still has the white screen when unplugged from the card anyway.
Does anyone know what is wrong and a fix?

I find myself stark naked except for a pair of latex gloves attempting to pull on a pair of red tights on in my parent's spare bedroom.

Try it with a different graphics card if you can and if it still occurs, then the monitor is at fault. I'd guess the part where it's an aging monitor would have something to do with it.
I'm assuming that you are using the monitor within the specifications (resolution & frequency).

Hit it Seriously, I have a dodgy old 15" LCD on my build bench that I found in a skip, every so often it wont get a video signal but a solid smack on the back sorts it out.

monitor still has the white screen Has your monitor also increased in size? Lots of people have been reporting white screens recently as a result of mixing up their monitor and window. Easily done.

+1 for hitting it. That's how russians kept the MIR space station in space for so long.

I know that TomCat has "fixed" at least 2 monitors by hitting them. I'm sure I saw an advert on amazon or something for 22" 120hz refresh rate Samsung for about £180, I'll see if I can find it again because that shit is bargintastic.

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/176582Bought this on Sam's recommendation (well, he recommended a slightly better model). However, love it - really nice and playing games at this resolution really does add to enjoyment (L4D is pure win!). Alternatively, Catch me on steam friends Milli as I have my old 19" Videoseven TFT spare. It's not in fantastic shape but is fine for playing games.
