Woke up this morning to find my steam account disabled - pretty shitty if you ask me.

Let me tell you why I think it's been disabled.

It's *ether* because a couple of people have given me items by trading in tf2

OR...

I tried to buy chime for £3.99 a couple of months ago. Went to paypal like I usually do, filled in my details, hit pay and when it went back to steam it said the transaction had failed. I went to my paypal account and the payment went through (it said it had completed). The game wasn't added to my account.

So what's the first thing you do...open a steam support ticket. I gave them the transaction details for the PayPal transaction, and this is the response I get:

Erm....NO. Nothing wrong with my paypal account you fuckwits! I told them they were incorrect and copied and pasted the transaction details from PayPal into the ticket.

Same BS response. And there's no way in HELL I am going to buy it again. I did the same again - copied and pasted the transaction details from paypal and told them that paypal has no record of the transaction failing.

That was on a Saturday, I didn't send my next message until monday. I thought I'd let them stew about it and let them think about what they've done.

It's now been like 3 days or something - so I log in to check my online banking and sure as anything - the £3.99 has been taken from my bank account. I tell them to either credit the game to my account or refund my payment via PayPal.

The same bullshit. I get really fed up by this point - as they're obviously not going to help me. I raise a dispute with PayPal for the transaction. You have to wait a certain amount of time before you can even raise a dispute, and then you have to wait like 2 weeks to allow them to respond/give more information. So I waited - no response from valve.

2 weeks comes around, still no comment from Valve - I get my refund from PayPal. Justice is served.

If that's the reason why my account has been disabled - Well done shitty Valve customer support.

Oh well - I've opened a ticket. Probably have to wait for them to respond to it.

So my steam account (with over 100 games on it) gets disabled for a £3.99 game.

To say I'm pissed off is a massive under statement.

I understand your frustration, but you might be jumping to conclusions.
There have been various cases I've read where failed transactions via PayPal have been complicated to clear up. Not saying this might be PayPal's fault entirely, just indicating that it's not always easy to find the culprit in a mess-up like the one you had.

But as long as you don't get a reason why your account has been disabled all this is speculation anyhow.

But now they're selling Steam/steamworks as a general publishing service rather than just Valves mechanism for delivering HL2, blanket locks on accounts ought be an absolute last resort. So those who scam TF2 trades should be banned from TF2, not the other 80 non-Valve games they might have. That's just nasty.

It's ridiculous the fact that they think it's ok to disable accounts with possibly hundreds of pounds worth of games just because they are suspicious of you scamming someone out of in game items that haven't cost them anything. They should just reverse all suspicious trades :S

Well yeah - it's the fact that they have done it with no warning or description that has annoyed me. They didn't try to contact me to resolve the issue and the support was less-than-helpful if it was the steam issue.

I agree, Claws. This is not proportionate, at least not unless somebody does it frequently.

They should just reverse all suspicious trades :S
That would turn it into an action which would not be punished, thus having no educational effect.

But we have been through all this before, and we don't even now if this has anything to do with Deadly's situation.

People don't need to be taught not to cheat either. So ETF2L (or any other league) should just point at Valve and say "It just needs to be prevented" and leave cheating unpunished?

And btw, of course they know it's wrong. The educational part is not to teach them that. The educational part is to show them the consequences.

This would be easily reversible if trades became cancellable for say the first 24 hours. Cheating is entirely different.
