It may be an issue with trading. I've seen hundreds of people deactivated since this trading thing arrived. :/

This truly sucks. This only reaffirms that I will never ever buy something off steam again. Too expensive, and too shifty.

My RA3 account has been disabled because I reinstalled the game after a disk crash. Now I can't play online any longer. Sucks.

I tried steam support once. After using my best english to describe my problem, they reset my steam password. Off course that didn't solve it at all. I probably should contact EA about this, but well... the comic below describes best how I feel about that.

I've never phoned EA but their web support is better than valves. Fucking shocking I know but every time I have a problem, while EA may be slow to initially respond at times (like more than 3 days) they always manage to sort stuff out and while they do give some canned responses they will actually reply in person if that doesn't help. Every response I get from valve on support tickets is canned, unhelpful and sometimes rude. All I can put this down to is EA having had years to develop a customer services department as a publisher, while valve is a developer suddenly finding that oh shit 30 million accounts with problems, oh shit oh shit oh shit.

Anyway email EA at least if you actually care about playing RA3 again.

Also I search google for steam accounts and the top two sites are selling them (probably stolen) the 3rd result is steampowered. Nice going there guys

they always used to be really helpful with problems with bf2 (there were tonnes of those) i always had someone reply to be within a couple days and they would manage to solve my problems (like the login server being shit or the graphics cashe files corrupting and telling me my hardware was broken)

short answer is that EA support are strangely quite good, maybe its because they have loads of problems with their games

To be fair, EA in has been getting less "evil" in general. Maybe it's Activision using up all the evil Tongue

I didn't realise they were blank accounts, you can probably get away with that because once you make the first purchase on it with your financial details, change the password and email you should be fairly secure and the sellers likely arn't going to advertise to valve that they've been selling free accounts.

Hope you find (or have found) what the problem is, I'd take Valve to every kind of consumer body I could find if this is unwarranted. Apparently from your exchange it was, since you neither got Chime or had a problem with funds being removed from your account (it was both right? no game and you got it refunded because you got no game?).

If it was for trading, bah, you already know my low opinion of those bans.

Wow. Just Wow.

Got a response from Valve.

Quote from: 'Bret @ Valve'
Hello Sam,

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

The purchase of Chime has been disputed by Paypal.

The Paypal account holder will need to close the dispute and have the funds returned to Steam. If the account holder is unable or unwilling to drop the dispute and let the PayPal know that the purchase is valid, and in turn have the funds returned to Steam, we will not be able to reactivate the account.

All games on your account are locked to the account and can not be transferred to a different account.

A different payment method can not be used for this game; the money must be returned by the PayPal account that made the original purchase.

If the dispute is closed and the funds are released back to Steam, the account will be reactivated. However if PayPal closes the dispute by “Reversing the Payment”, meaning they send the funds for the purchase back to you, the Steam account will remain locked and you will lose access to all of the games on the account.

There are no options to resolve a dispute once PayPal has closed the case, so we suggest that you contact them immediately.

PayPal Help Center
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_help-ext

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

We are not able to do anything further with your account while a PayPal dispute is still pending, please remedy this issue with PayPal before asking for the account to be reactivated.

So essentially...yeah...erm...doing what they told me to do (raise the issue with PayPal) has now meant I'll probably never get my account back. Hmm.

My response:
Quote
Hello,

This is incorrect. Please see ticket 9283-GCMP-2242 for full details.

I tried to purchase Chime from the steam store and after entering my PayPal details and clicking 'return to merchant' (a process I have repeated countless times having bought many games from steam) and when it returned to steam it said that there had been an error completing the transaction. I immediately checked my PayPal account which marked the transaction as 'completed' - which meant that you received the funds from me, charging my PayPal account. The game was not credited to my account so I opened the steam support ticket 9283-GCMP-2242 and informed them that the game had not been added to my account and gave them the PayPal transaction details regarding the purchase attempt.

The response I got from your support colleague was incorrect as they said that PayPal had declined the attempt - even though I checked my records and the transaction was 'completed' which means that you received the payment and therefore the error was at your (steam's) end. I then gave the full transaction details from PayPal.

I was then given a response saying that I had not been charged. I waited nearly a week and checked my online banking and the £3.99 for the game had been removed from my bank account, the game had not still been credited and I had not received the money back from PayPal (and the transaction was still marked as completed). I was told to make another purchase for the game - the game which I should have received in the first place.

I was then given a very similar response to both of my replies to the ticket (having to wait at least a day between each one). The final reply from your member of support staff was that 'the held funds for this purchase attempt should drop off your statement and be returned to your account within 5-10 business days' - which was on the 14th of September, a full week after attempting to purchase the game.

I tried to initially purchase the game on the 7th of September. 10 business days following that takes you to the 21st of September and I had still not received a credit to either my bank account or PayPal account. I was informed by your support staff that I should raise the issue with PayPal so I raise a claim against them for the transaction of £3.99. They awarded the claim in my favour (with no response from valve or steam regarding the issue) and I got my £3.99 back (and still did not have the game in my account).

I paid for the game, the PayPal transaction charged my account and I did not receive it and PayPal mediated the transaction and gave me a refund (Your support colleague told me to raise the issue with PayPal so that's what I did).

I then, at a later date, on the 7th of October tried to purchase the game again (with steam confirmation number 846867410450321951, a separate transaction), as I wanted to buy it and the game is being done for a video games charity (Trying to do a good deed in supporting a charity). This purchase attempt was successful, and the game was finally credited to my account, a month later than I originally tried to purchase it.

As you can see...I tried to purchase a game, it failed and I did not receive the game. I waited how long I was told to wait and then followed the procedure given to me by your support colleague to raise the issue with PayPal and a refund was given. Once I had received the refund I then re-purchased the game which was successfuly - and I got to play it.

I do not see how this has resulted in your disabling my account - without warning or provocation, especially considering no response was given to the PayPal dispute (AND steam support ticket) that I raised to try and resolve this issue.

Quite frankly, I am absolutely disgusted at
a) my account being disabled for no reason,
b) the number of times I have said good things about steam as a service which I use regularly and purchase games (and TF2 items) regularly,
c) the appalling level of support I have received when trying to resolve the issue regarding the initial purchase

Hopefully now I have described the issue further (which I shouldn't have had to do - as you didn't give *me* any explanation for disabling my account, nor give me a chance to resolve the issue without disabling my account first (having received a warning)) you will re-enable my account and realise that I have no debt to Valve.

I also found your response to this ticket quite threatening as I have tried to do everything I can to resolve this issue (not to mention the fact that I was told to raise the issue with PayPal regarding the failed payment) and you're now threatening that I will lose all of the games on my account and it will not be re-enabled again.

So....angry....now...
