I've played it, but since LoLHoNDotaMobaWatchamacallit isn't my main genre anyway I prefer to spend time where I've already gotten a feel for the game. That'd be LoL then

I actually do play Doto 2 way more than LeL right now. I dunno Im just bored with it, its arguably too stale, no room for unconventional shit. At a point in LoL where Im mechanically good enough as a jungler that all I do is watch the minimap and think about teamstrategies. boringg

There is going to be a giant update tomorrow with a full tutorial mode implemented that covers all the games mechanics. Checked it out on the test client and it's great, much better than LoL or HoNs shitty tutorials. Going through all the tutorial maps takes around an hour so they really try to give you enough time to digest all the info. At the end of the tutorial they encourage you to play against bots and real people with a limited hero pool that only consists of easy beginner heroes. If you always felt anxious about plunging into this game, now may be a perfect time! Also Doto 2 will be released at the end of this month before the next International tournament, so no more getting spammed with invites. Their documentary will come out soon too

Hmm..with a really good tutorial and an easy introduction I might give it a try. I think I have a key, everyone has so many I'm sure I was given one.
I still find the thought of LoL too intimidating to bother with, especially when I've got so much else to play that isn't.

If you feel like its too intimidating, all I can say is keep playing! Eventually youll get more comfortable with the game. While also requiring alot of strategic thinking, foremost its muscle memory that needs to be built, and that can only be done by playing da gaimz
I really dig the tutorials they offer for Dota 2. Besides being really helpful they also put them in lore-related context and reward you with pages for an ingame book that tells more about the dumb Dota world. I also really like how they use the tutorials to explain some more advanced things, one example in particular: There are heroes in the game that can displace you and if youre unfortunate you can land behind trees or on a ledge you cant get away from. Ive seen more than enough players be helpless in that situation and dont understand that they can just get a TP scroll from the courier to get out of there. In the second tutorial map they put you in a situation where you are trapped in an ambush by creeps and the guide tells you to get a TP scroll with the courier. There are alot of these subtle hints and theyre implemented in a cool way. By the end, they give you as I mentioned the opportunity to play against bots or real players with a set of limited heroes. To emphasize on the learning-by-playing method, they give you an additional motivation by rewarding you with ingame items for one of the characters from the tutorial if you play 10 of these games. This is imo the first Moba that has a serviceable and helpful tutorial. LoLs is god awful because it doesnt explain last hitting, HoNs has been scrapped and replaced by coop vs. AI and SMNC had a god awful sandboxmap.

I guess they found where they can differentiate themselves from other MOBAs - look forward to checking this out as I've not actually played any DOTA2 yet, I think I had it installed at one point but never got around to launching it.

I've downloaded it. I'll see how well the teaching works. I think it's a good idea limiting the hero pool. That's one of the things daunting about LoL at the start.
Having a given restricted number should allow you to get to know and feel comfortable with them all before you start playing proper. Twenty seems a good number..should give sufficient variety for you to carry on playing with at least some afterwards.
