Both seem to be pretty similar in price and performance. I'm leaning towards the Radeon but I have had used ATi for the last 8 years or so. Maybe it's time for a change.

If you have onboard graphics then going with the same can net you slight performance gains in crossfire/sli. This is more noticable with nvidia cards as they have physx, I don't think ATI cards have physx.
Nvidia has much better support for linux.

I don't know about these specific cards, but I would go for whichever was cheaper when it came out, this should help you steer away from "Enthusiast" gear. Which in my eyes, tends to mean "Noisy, overheating and overpriced thing that will break"
Or whichever you can get with a better warranty.

I have the 260, and I really like it.
Don't know about how noisy it is, because I've got it watercooled...

c) is my PSU up to keeping it powered
d) how loud are the cooling fans
The ATI cards seem to run quite cool and need less power (5770 specifically). The new NVidia cards are reported as running hotter, being bigger in size and requiring more power than similarly priced ATI cards.
I'm an ATI user at present - until such time that NVidia start making good products again. I'm also a sucker for products that have a great price / performance ratio (not something that NVIdia have met for a while imho).
