Hi all.

So I will be joining the WDG crew at i40. Initially I wanted to surprise John by just appearing there , but I just thought, to hell with it, this way it will be much cooler. Because I'd like to organize a bit of vacation before the Event.

So, I was thinking of visiting London (a day of looking at the Major touristy stuff, "been there - done that" style), having a look at the gravel called Stonehenge, and maybe something a bit to the south? I don't know, I'll leave it up to you. 

I'm considering to start the weekend before (20th/21st Aug.) make a stop in Brussels and take the ferry the next day, so I'd be on british soil around 10am. From then on I'm free till arriving at Newbury Racecourse on the 27th.

I will be having a rentèd car, so I'm flexible. Tell me what and whom to visit, and when. I've not booked anything yet (will do i40 after posting...) so maybe I can arrange stuff. For gas consolidation reasons I will try to optimize the route.

After i40 I'd love to take a stop at the Junta family (for the 31st), if I may be so bold to ask that upfront here in the Forums.

Just driving past Stonehenge will probably be enough, it's expensive and really not very impressive especially since you can't walk anywhere near the stones for preservation (which is a load of bollocks).

If you want to come down South, we could probably organise a WDG meetup. Me, Dibble, Scrog, Lister, Mama, Chug etc. all live near Winchester/Basingstoke/Soton.

There you go, Stonehenge, thats pretty much it really, you missed the druids at the solstice yesterday and I think they may be digging it up at the moment.  You can get a bit closer round the other side but is best seen as an unexpected driving distraction for free.  The visitor center is a portacabin.

If you are going through Dover the castle is expensive but worth a look.  The center of Dover is to be avoided

Was going to say the same thing, you used to be able to wonder freely in Stonehenge but now it is just boring because you aren't allowed to go near it.

On my last visit we skipped dover castle on account of only having a few hours left before departure. I shall remedy that this time 'round.

Very much yes, depending on how Papa&HeX are willing and able to accomodate me, I will loop through the south somehow. And seeing as I would be going to Newbury anyhow the Basingstoke detour sounds awesome.

Devil's Advocate: You can always do London on a separate trip via plane, but you can go to the rest of the country best with a car. So I'd suggest the south. If you are brave enough, that is.

Really recommend you don't take a car into London.  I'd say take the train.  If you can get a train to Brussels then the Eurostar will take you to straight into Central London.
