My little brother is in need of a new computer, basically the specs are its to be geared towards gaming and £400 budget (know its not much but its all he got Wink )
Was wondering if you guys could come up with some options? Seeing as I don't have much clue Smiley

I quite like my ghetto ass AMD quad core. It's an.. x4 620 or something. Very cheap, decent performance, free up the cash to spend on a graphics card.

Sorry yeah should of specified a few other things, the £400 quid is just for the actual components (including case) he has a monitor, OS and all his peripherals. As for the games, don't think he has any super-demanding games but being able to at least run new games would be a plus I suppose.

how about something like this :
Athlon II X4 630 , £86
AMD Socket AM2+ motherboard - £65
4GB DDR2 - £78! RAM prices are insane compared to last year!
Radeon 5770 - £128

Remaining budget to go on a cheap case (<£20), and whatever decent brand PSU over 400W that he can afford.

Alternatively, keep an eye out for a second hand Q6600 system (frequently go for only around £200) and wack a new graphics card in.

This. Cheap, cheerful and often has DDR3 support, so you can salvage your RAM if you upgrade later Smiley

PS. I dunno if Cheez meant a pre-built system, if so, look at these base units:

You'd need to add a hard disk, CD / DVD and a decent graphics card. The rest is pre-installed.

There is an AMD II  X4 630 Quad Core for £232.99  inc vat  - easily within budget when allowing some extra for a hard drive, DVD burner and a budget graphics card. Obviously doesn't include Windows though Sad
