Back from the wedding of two of my best friends.

Very nice.

Me and another friend were witnesses; we'd been responsible for introducing them. We'd interviewed the groom for our gaming group and had considered him satisfactory enough to invite him to join; she was a friend of mine and later on I asked her to come along to the group (she was a lapsed gamer wanting to start again). The rest as they say is history  Grin.

I also performed a reading at the wedding

From the ‘Four Quartets’ by T. S. Eliot

If you do not come too close, if you do not come too close,
On a summer midnight, you can hear the music
Of the weak pipe and the little drum
And see them dancing around the bonfire
The association of man and woman
In dancing, signifying matrimony —
A dignified and commodious sacrament.
Two and two, necessary conjunction,
Holding each other by the hand or the arm
Which betokeneth concord. Round and round the fire
Leaping through the flames, or joined in circles,
Rustically solemn or in rustic laughter
Lifting heavy feet in clumsy shoes,
Earth feet, loam feet, lifted in country mirth.

Keeping time,
Keeping the rhythm in their dancing
As in their living in the living seasons
The time of the seasons and the constellations
The time of milking and the time of harvest
The time of the coupling of man and woman
And that of beasts. Feet rising and falling.
With the drawing of this Love and the voice of this Calling.

We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
Through the unknown, unremembered gate
When the last of earth left to discover
Is that which was the beginning;
At the source of the longest river
The voice of the hidden waterfall
And the children in the apple-tree
Not known, because not looked for
But heard, half-heard, in the stillness
Between two waves of the sea.

Their two children were at the wedding along with about 40 others...most under 10! The theme was 'English medieval fayre' held in an old village hall in Kent. We had Flora the Giantess to bless the couple, a Punch and Judy, a hog roast, folk singers, a ceilidh and a Dark Morris side (a new Morris tradition re-invented by Terry Pratchett).

The ushers wore top hats with feathers in and shirts tied with laces  Cheesy. Ladies were encouraged to wear flowers in their hair.  I wore my red Monsoon dress with flowers on and red and white roses (not real Tongue) in my hair, I felt like a Spanish senoritta about to break into a flamenco!

I stayed in a rather eccentric B&B run by an elderly Irish gentleman; came back from the wedding, entered my room to find someone else's stuff everywhere and no sign of my own. Went back downstairs, ran on the bell and eventually found someone who told me I'd been put in the wrong room originally. All my things had been moved to another. All fine and dandy, but it would have been useful to have been told or for a message to have been put somewhere. If the new occupants had been in, such hilarity could have ensued!

But anyway, it was all very successful, and went really well for them. They were very happy (and the groom teared up during the exchange of vows...Awww)

Where in Kent were you Berath?  I know most of the county pretty well.

Last Christmas I got given on of these experience day things, finally got round to booking it for this weekend.  Longish drive from Broadstairs to East Grinstead (170 mile round trip) in my aging Fiesta I'd never done a proper motorway journey in on one of the hottest days of the year.  The car was fine, I melted.

Got to the location, it was a Scouts & Guides camp where the company Leisure Pursuits rented land off them, a very strange combination.  We had to walk about a mile to a double decker bus buried in the undergrowth which served as their office.

I got to drive this

It was, as the instructor said more for show than go, it was not a easy drive round the field, the steering was.... a challenge

I then got to drive this

This was more like it, a proper American monster truck (as seen in the latest MacDonalds advert) it had a 7.2cc V8 engine producing over 500bhp and no silencers.  They measured fuel consumption in litres per minute.
.
This was the only brake. Great fun to drive even if we were rather limited in what we were allowed to do, the amount of destruction this thing could do unsupervised would be enormous

We were going to drive this but it broke

Two engines, no steering, weird

So they transfered us to this

(pic of me in a crash helmet btw)Best drive of the day, a 4x4 trial vehicle, got to drive it round a very tight course in a forest then drive into and along a stream.  The instructor was a total nutter.
One of the other guys driving into the stream

All in all a good, if hot day.

Continuing the good news theme.

Today I managed something that I haven't managed to do for nearly 7 years!

Today I managed to drive from the M4 Avon bridge toll booth through to Bridgend AT MOTORWAY SPEEDS!

NO! REALLY!

At long sodding last the Welsh have finally stopped dicking about with their sodding motorway, and it is now possible to drive past Newport at more than 50mph!

But it didn't last. After tinkering with a flacky PC in Swansea for over 3 hours, I was heading back. And what a surprise, it was raining. I know! Who'd have thought it would rain in Wales. So they countered this with signs of "SPRAY! SLOW DOWN!", and unleashed the evil of the variable speed limit.

Had a pretty decent day for the most part. Went wakeboarding for essentially the first time today (went once when I was like 12, in the middle of December on a freezing cold lake with the worst instructor ever, face planted and never did it again).
Tbh, i wasn't too bad at it, certainly having done a lot of snowboarding in the past worked in my favour so by the end of the lesson was pretty confident turning both on my toe n heal edge, and only had one major faceplant during it Tongue
Had a fucking good time though, hoping to make it a regular thing.
After that, the guy I went with wanted to go out clubbing with some minions. Stupidly I tagged along, even though i know I hate clubbing, but thought, maybe I'll enjoy it this time.

Ended up at one of the busiest clubs in Brighton. Came to the conclusion that, whilst I love the people I go into a club with, I FUCKING HATE CLUBS. Queued for 20 minutes for drinks, had multiple people jump in front of me, and kept constantly getting shoved in the back. And that's just when you're trying to get a drink! I hate the music so it's nothing I'd ever want to dance to and hell, I don't even look like the sort of person who should be in a "trendy" nightclub, so just spend the entire thing feeling out of place. Fortunately I have good friends who know I hate clubbing and try to do shit in there I might enjoy (mainly that's just sitting outside with a drink, so I can have a conversation with them)

TL;DR

Wakeboarding:Awesome
Clubs:Shit
