By comparison my day was a fairly normal Monday. Went to Hereford, fixed a couple of things. Came home. There was some "Grrr" dispersed through the day, but that's to be expected Smiley

Get well soon Mama!

My day was okay. The kids where a bit crazy, I think it is because of the weather (hot and muggy).. so it was a stressful morning but the afternoon was nice, outside at the sandpit...
Oh and this morning I decided I need more luck so I threw 6 (dirty) plates on the ground.. that should last for 3 years I think. (stupid me..)

(sorry for double post but no one had something to moan about since  June 06, 2011, 05:20:45 PM it seems..)

So the last 2 days where "awesome". Yesterday I got told that another childminder is "mobbing" me by taking down my leaflets and circulation rumours. I called the childminder who actually saw it and she told me that there are actually 3 childminder doing that. They all live together in the same street and hang out together and stuff and act like they are the bests. "Good thing" is that it is not just me they are "mobbing" but some other childminder too. "Bad thing" is that one of them I actually called a good friend.

Last year I had a visit from a mum and her son looking for a childminder for August 2011-September 2012). She chose me so I had that spot reserved for them. Today she called and told me that it seems like he can go to the day nursery. She will call again on wednesday to confirm that or tell me that they need my spot.

I'm sooo tired of all of this right now.. Today is a day again where I ask myself if this is really the right job for me. But unfortunately I can't think about anything better for me.. I don't want to rot in an office..

As I was told from childhood on that everything happens for a reason, I guess we will move after all or something even better will happen.. we will see.

Strewth! The cut-throat reality of the under-belly of childminding. Jebus is right, you've rattled their little cages. So as they can't beat you fair and square, they are resorting to underhanded methods. Find these people and politely warn them that one word from you, and you can have your own personal squad of deranged Englishmen (other nationalities available) bouncing all over the neighborhood going "MEEEEOWWWW!" Teach them to screw with the clan Smiley That'll learn 'em Cheesy

I've had a day of jewelers. Quite odd, all the jobs were for the same customer. All in all was quite a good giggle. Much fun banter was had at the first site in Oxford. Manageress was very quick witted. The job it's self was a bit sticky. Repeated problems with the chip & pin on till 1. So the "shot-gun" approach was employed. Replace everything. So with 2 new data cables, a PSU and a new chip & pin unit it still didn't work. So the help desk dialed in and re-started the service that controls the chip & pin. Funnily enough, that's exactly what the manageress said would happen. I suspect that she's seen this thing before Smiley

Next site in Witney was resolved by plugging the cable into the back of the DVD. This stopped the DELL bios complaining on every restart. The third job in Swindon got postponed. I went to the parts locker and found that my part wasn't there. Apparently it's at the distribution center. It just didn't get distributed Smiley

All good fun Cheesy

Maree took Keira, our youngest to the doc as she had a temperature, the doc told her to take her straight to the hospital.  Cue some scary hours whilst we waited for the NHS to sort themselves out.  Turns out she had a non serious virus and she was dosed up on baby painkillers.  Maree spent nearly 5 hours waiting for that verdict.  I got to go home early to pick the kids up from school.  We all seem to have colds at the moment.

On the work front I found out a bit about our brilliant new computer system our Nobia overlords have purchased for Magnet.  So far it's cost them in the region of £15 million to implement the system and it is hugely and unnecessarily complicated, even the simplest transaction requires exactly the right sequence of button presses in the right order or it disappears the stock, or locks you out of that transaction, or adds extra VAT, or looses a line, or simply refuses to invoice anything.  It also only works in Internet Explorer.

What has really pissed me off is despite all these problems no one is allowed to admit there is anything wrong with the system, any problems are put down to "user errors" and not "overcomplex bug ridden software".

It seems that SAP is kept in a just about functioning state as a marketing tool to keep their customers buying upgrades, no doubt promising "this upgrade will really fix everything, this time, honest" and the companies having already invested so much time and money already they are too scared to change their system.  Just look up "SAP reviews" in Google, something anyone responsible with anything to do with the project failed to do (or was bribed into forgetfulness).

Same thing with SIMS the schools database by capita. They keep buying out competitors to maintain the monopoly. Parts of it are still rely on legacy 16 bit software which can't be run on a 64 bit OS.

I also worked with an SAP based software tool today. It was hilarious.

You CANNOT print in this software. You CANNOT copy all the rows in a database, JUST THE ONES YOU SEE ON THE SCREEN!! (not kidding!!! if you want to copy ALL of those, you have to copy paste it somewhere else, then scroll down to copy the rest of it and paste it somewhere else so you get all of it). You also cannot paste in more rows, than you can see... To actually mark data for copying you have to use the combination Ctrl+Y, which makes your mouse pointer into an aim reticule, which then allows you (I am amazed), to select the rows to copy... There is actually also a normal selection, by clicking your mouse and dragging it across the part you want to select, but that one works ONLY IF YOU WANT TO DELETE THE ROWS. Also Shift+clicking to select a range of rows doesn't work. It's like the developers looked at all the best GUIs out there and said to themselves: "Well fuck all that."

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME WITH THIS SHIT?Huh?
