Bacon Sandwiches ftw. After many years I believe I have finally perfected them. Fresh granary bread, thickly buttered (proper butter mind you, none of this "olive spread" crap) both slices, 4slices of smokey bacon cooked on a med-high heat until it's just starting starting to crisp but isn't totally shrivvelled and burnt. Finish off by giving your top slice of bread a quick wipe around the hot pan to soak up the fat.

Resist the temptation to add an egg or sauce (red or brown), simplicity is key. You can get by on just two rashers provided they are premium and thickly sliced, if it's the thin stuff you need four.
A good non-stick pan is worthwhile here, that way you don't need to add any oil and thus can can easily obtain the tasty BCB's (burnt crispy bits). Just get the pan hot and throw the bacon straight in.

It's the ideal breakfast, cooks in the perfect amount of time (time it takes to boil a kettle and make a nice cup of tea) and there's no difficult washing up (if you use a non stick pan and picked up the BCB's with your bread slice).

Never thought of wiping the fat with the bread mmmmm. But I don't like butter in the sandwiches, I usually go for a thin spread of mayonnaise.

Well that was odd, reset the CMOS, ran Windows memtest and I'm back in business again...Anyone know if BSoDs leave a dump file anywhere so I can find out what caused it?

Kira went to the doctor's for a check up yesterday and got sent to the hospital for some tests. As it turns out, she's got mild pre-eclampsia. This probably won't be an issue since they've caught it (1 in 10 first pregnancies have it) but the side effect is that they need to monitor her labour, so she's being induced tomorrow. Panic time.

Hopefully by the time you read this you will have a baby and will be wondering what the hell to do now.  DON'T PANIC everything will be ok.  Mrs Bystander suffered from pre-eclampsia with no permanent ill effects to her or the baby.

She has also informed me we have 10 weeks to go till number 5.

(Apparently a good way of preventing pre-eclampsia is frequent exposure to the partner's semen in the run up to and during pregnancy. Just for future reference, future parents out there )

It also can make labour start, that and pineapple and raspberry leaf tea.

Nice - but I prefer to grill bacon - makes it crispier Although you can't get the fat on the bread if you do that.

They ended up unsure whether Kira actually had pre-eclampsia or not. It was that mild. Anyway, she was induced at 4 and now it's the waiting game. Basically, she's trying to get a child with some of my genes out of a place where everything is warm, cosy and provided for her, so I imagine it'll be quite a while yet. We've all been thrown out of the hospital for the night so it's a case of sitting in her parent's house waiting for the call.
