Of course you can still circumvent it but you can't be naive enough to think the current system isnt being constantly abused and circumvented already.

So if you move country and rebuild your machine you get a VAC ban? I say the systems being abused/circumvented either, like I said before, in 2 years (530 hours) of playing TF2 I've only ever seen 3 people using hacks that are VAC bannable.

The actual anti cheat mechanisms are crap they rarely detect any of the good hacks and only the poorly coded hacks. This means its very unlikely to log a false positive, and more likely to log false negatives. So if your account is caught (for whatever reason ) then fair enough you should lose the multiplayer aspect of it.

As I said in previous post the problem with VAC is that it affects your whole account, and all games.

Take another game for example. You get caught hacking you buy another key.  If your key is compromised and it gets banned, again you only have to purchase another key for that one game.

VAC on the other hand screws you up for all your games.

I must say that the VAC system has almost totally wiped out cheaters compared with how bad it used to be.  Unfortunately there should be some sort of more obvious appeal process that works slightly faster.

I've sent a couple of PMS but this is better.

First we must outline what we define as good, in the Wittgenstein-ien language games tradition. It seems apparent immediately that to know good we must also know the bad as it's comparison. Therefore a good act is one that has positive consequences for a particular party. But there must be a balance somewhere, for no action could be considered good by everyone. For example, say we are passing by a homeless man and give him half of a sandwich. Not only does negitivity pass on to us in the form of hunger unfulfilled or money wasted but the homeless man might reject it due to his possible wheat allergy. I therefore conclude that no action could ever be considered truly good as a negative effect will be impose upon another.

VAC's fine. As I said before, people would cheat, lob in a ticket saying their account was hacked, get the ban lifted and be on their merry way. It's just unfortunate that this time it happened to someone we know, I don't ever remember anyone speaking anywhere about how unjust the VAC system is when it wasn't banning our friends, so I don't see why we should start picking holes in the system now that its affected someone we know. In all my time playing TF2 I think I've only ever seen 3 legitimate "hackers", one was an aimbot and 2 speed hackers, in over 530 hours and its thanks to VAC. It's brutal, but then it has to be otherwise douchebags would rule the servers.

 Tbf you have probably seen a helluva lot more than you think Not every hacker is a blatantasshole, desensitised aimbotting or walls are still very difficult to interpret if the player is clever. Plus alot of these hacks aren't registered by Valve.

Yep, lots of aimbots have settings for you to tweak into stealth mode, and some even come with preset config files for different configs. 

The ones you only notice are where they have set them to 'rage' settings, ie auto fire, angle of aimbot view 360 deg, no recoil, no fire spread, and particular to tf2 100% crit.

Stealth mode settings could no auto fire, aimbot view 5 degrees (means you have to aim within 5 degres of target and the aimbot will fin tune your aim), and all other settings left normal.

I once messed about with an aimbot config for SP UT2004 (just a config, not an injected Hack)

Only worked in sp mode, and it auto headshotted EVERYthing lol.. was funny watching it and not pressing a button.. deleted it pretty quick though

Like I said.. the current process is draconian and dumb. I could live with draconian and clever, just not dumbass. But as people are pointing out, there is no profit for Valve if they build a fairer VAC system. Why do that when a dumb version will do?

Agreed, but then we're back to moving country again; if your account was registered in the UK and you moved to China, VAC would flag that as suspicious? All of these things you're speaking about are expoitable by the hackers* themselves, a straight out "draconian" no means that it's not worth the effort to try and hack in games as you'll loose all your shit with NO hope of reprieve.

Just as an indicator, how many other people know someone that this has happened to (account hacked and then VAC banned)?

*Also, I think calling these turds hackers is a bit of a misnomer as generally all they've done is downloaded a plugin/piece of software and then scammed/brute forced their way into someone elses account. They should be called "wankers"

You can flag something as suspicious without taking action? If the account then did do something ban able (i.e. cheat), then you could look to see if there was any prior suspicious activity. If the activity looked like a hijack, you could at least give a second chance to the account holder before a permanent ban?

I heard of 3 or 4 people in 2 years of CSS who were VAC banned. Not all were innocent in my opinion (although to demonstrate your point Tom, they would say they were innocent of course).

I've seen 4 or 5 speed hackers on TF2 - not seen any aim botters yet.
