Hmmm well, as many of you may have noticed recently, warping and lag have become a considerable problem for me lately. Rang up Virgin Media today whos response was (and this is  a quote):

"Well nothing we can do, too bad, our main focus is web browsing so anything else is not our problem"

and then got hung up on! I was like FU!!

See if any of you sexy people have an ideas:






Now have to ring Play.com to ask why my BFBC2 beta key is apparently already in use =/

Well then ask them why they are offering 20mb/s connections for 'web browsing'

Well technically speaking, there really isn't anything you can do on your side.
You can try again and hope to get somebody better on the phone.

However it looks like ISP-switching is something you should look into. If they don't want you business, they shouldn't get it.

run a constant ping to google (ping -t) and see how many don't respond.

That tracert is horrible, actually much worse than the one we did to your Server 2.

The * mean the request timed out as your PC received no response from that node. It's not tragic in itself as there might be components configured to not response to a ping command to prevent spamming them. But what sucks is where you get a response one time, then don't get a response anymore. This points to an extremely unstable, unreliable node, which regulardly will drop your packets. While it is ensured, that your packets arrive eventually, the amount of times they need to be resend is what makes you warp all over the place.

Your game and the server try to predict where you are at any given time without any update packets, every time there is an update packet you position is updated with real data. With that kind of connection problems there is constant jumping between estimating (usually works, but is not correct if you change directions quickly and you are usually a scout) and actuall data, which makes you jump back and forth all the time, that's what we perceive as warping.

Also, the huge difference in response times on some nodes will make it hard to get a stable datastream going and will make this problem worse. Seeing as most of the shit nodes (well pretty much all actually) are in the virginmedia network, they are FULLY to blame for your problems, unless there is some problem in your local network or components.

Can't really give you any advice as it's probably the provider's problem. From their response I guess they suck? Most of the providers do, I guess the best you can do is to stay persistent and insist on checking the signal quality to your home and swapping network components if needed. I don't know how it works in UK, but they are offering a specific kind of services and unless it is saying somewhere "We're for browsing only" call bullshit on their statements.

It will ping your connection regularly and produce graphs of the response times over an extended period (you have to login once every 30 (?) days otherwise they remove the monitoring) but it's a good source of proof/evidence to use against them.

this sounds strangely similar to my problem and I am also on virgin media.. ergo virgin media suxors :@

i've had to put up with it for months now nothing I try seems to work. however at like 4am the internet seems to be ok so maybe change your gaming schedule

It's quite possible that they have overgrown their capacity (it happened to Be about this time last year...) and if that's the case...there's not a lot you can do until they sort out their traffic management / increase their capacity.

Sounds a lot like the problem me and deadly had with Be last year. Check their forums and see if anyone else in your area is having issues- if so, sounds like an overloaded exchange.

Actually there is, a guy in brighton has reported a similar issue and I think he suggested it might be an overloaded node. Sooo is there nothing I can do?
