Sorry, nope! Just advising against BT, my dads on them and rarely gets more the 1mbs and the net coverage regularly drops completely. Admitedly they are quite far from the exchange but still, we're talking dial-up speeds here when they're paying for around 10-15mbs.

My parents have it at home, think they only get like 2Mbps usually. According to the BT website, estimated speed is about 6Mbps. which is good enough I guess. Parents internet did have a random habit of cutting out every now and then, though not so regular to become a major issue.

As regards your phone line thing. Do you have a BT phone socket where you live? If yes, then it's not going to cost you over a hundered quid to get it installled as it's there already. It just needs activating.

As regards BT broadband. Been using at home for over 4 years. Have the occational blip where the service drops below 3 meg. An E-mail off to BT to tell them that the service has gone poo again. Majically the service returns to 5 to 6 meg. Then simply ignor all the calls from BT trying to ring from India to confirm that the line is now OK.

That's horrific. How the hell can changing some settings in a virtual exchange warent a £125 bill? If they were coming to the property and running a new wire in I could just about come to terms with the expenses.

I would want BT to explain and justify the cost to me. Make me belive that handing over that amount of money is worth it. I don't remember paying them that when I moved into my flat 4 years ago. I don't remember ever paying BT an instalation fee. How the hell does that conversation go with BT?

"YOU K*CKIN'WHAT!"

Truly shocking. Write to watch dog and see how fast they activate your line when some bad publicity is in the pipe work? But knowing BT they probaly don't care.
