If this is a rather high paying affair, it might well be worth getting a proper lawyer to check over the contract (which you of course always need to get sent duplicates of before you sign). The salary part is one thing, but as others have said, working hours, holiday time, erroneous contract law ("We own you 24/7") all alter how much you should be reimbursed.

Yes, very sensible. They should make an offer with terms and conditions because you should put a value on things such as having to work at a different site due to contractual obligations. An example would be if you had to travel regularly or there were conditions on shift work etc.

Don't forget termination clauses as well.. i.e. attempts to prevent you from working in the industry, non disclosure and notice period. Notice period can be a killer if you get a long one (I've had 3 months before and it was a PITA when switching job ... definite thing to look out for and hard to turn down for the right money).

And then he proceeded to mess up a basic testing procedure messing up the entire planet in the process, which also cost him his dayjob. At least he got a couple of prototype weapons during his adventures, too bad he indirectly killed everyone he could've shown them to.

to be fair the ripping holes in reality and killing loads of people bit wasn't really his fault. i mean if a hyper-powered, trans-dimensional being just happened to choose you as his puppet then there really is very little you can do about it.

also along the same lines i would be far happier carrying a crowbar around with me, its so multi-purpose

Edit: Oh, about G-Man... when I first played HL1 I hardly spoke any english and I had the english version of the game. I didn't understand a word that guy with the briefcase was saying and thought the ending was horrible because of that. For me the game ends at the very moment you beat Nihalanth or whatever the name was.

I also think it was way cheaper for Gordon to pay some random homeless guy to buy a suit and a briefcase and pose like some kind of a mastermind behind it, than to explain how his own incompetence destroyed the earth.

i think i'll go for the pre-determinism slant, the g-man made his salary poor simply to get him to push the trolley into the lightening thingy badly and give us an opportunity to hit things with a big red crowbar. so really he couldn't have negotiated a decent pay cheque with or without a gun.

It's my third try and the real advice has been given on multiple occasions by people smarter (and probably also better paid) than me.
