saying that, I spend my working life on E-Mails as I work from home, and the iPhone suits that perfectly...
Admitedly I cant reply to them as quickly as I could with one of your little gems but my work is all done on an apple iMac... so its perfect for the job!
One problem I have had lately though is the screen doesnt work... like sometimes not at all!
Tried everything apart from RMA but O2 dont care about you if your on Pay As You Go...
£400 for a phone and they dont give a crap!

I've got the flashy Sony Xperia. Tremendous screen - up there with the iPhone but I wouldn't recommend. Sony trying too hard - they've slowed down pocket pc which is some achievement.

Back comes off far too easy which is irritating tho it is staying on longer as it ages. Putting that down to a healthy accumulation of gunk

To be fair the feature set these days is great - GPS, HDSPA for decent browsing, etc. Pretty sure you could stream video on mine if I could be arsed.

I've got a touch diamond - it's the closest thing to a non-iphone smartphone i've found. Like it a lot but like Gas said - the custom interfaces slow down windows mobile.

Forgive my naivity, but from what I've gathered a blog (like wordpress) will require PHP and a database like MySQL, right?
So the most likely way to go would be to purchase a domain from a webhost who offers this.
I looked up what my ISP is offering and the cost would be around €100 per year

Of course I could go low-tech and simply use HTML. Worked before ...

I get unlimited bandwidth and storage for 10 domains for £80 per year

Im sure you can find a similar deal for just your 1 domain for about 30Euros

I'd get something hosted in your country. It's just a bit nicer on the whole latency thing - one thing you don't want is problems accessing your hosting (and local support means you can ring a local number).

Look around, I've got UK hosting so that wouldn't be suitable, I forget how much it is but it's less then £50 (with an SSL certificate for my admin back end - which is good with worpdress plugins for it, since it means I can go on more public wifi with stuff).

So netcologne tries to rid you off your money FAST? (Though I guess since they're mostly an ISP webhosting is not within their usual services...) No, seriously, you can get web hosting cheap-ass (see www.webhostlist.de).

If it's nothing too serious I could even host it for you...

I dunno about wordpress, but (e.g.) SPIP (which is already going towards a full-blown CMS) can do SQLITE, so you don't even need a MySQL server. PHP usually suffices.

I'd recommend anyone to have a proper database so it is easy to backup (which there are wordpress plugins for, yay!). Anything that relies on the server side filesystem not going out of whack might be doomed from the start, heh.

If you dont mind going overseas.. I have been with Streamline.net for a good 4 or 5 years now and while they usually need a push to setup a domain or something, it usually gets sorted the same or next day and once its up and running I never experience problems... also comes with up to 10 MySQL databases per domain with the option to add more later.. you also get unlimited emails ect for your domain and as many subdomains as you like..
