I'm considering doing something like that. Still unsure in which form exactly.
Any pointers for software to make a technical challenged person accomplish something like a blog (or of similar structure). Preferably free and portable.

Wordpress works well, if you want a list of plugins I use on my site (aarmstrong.org) I can get them out.
On others:
Drupal - abysmal as a blog, needs a lot of work to make it usable into any kind of anything tbh.
MovableType - I hate it, but some love it. Very basic ("page rebuilds" and stuff) and fast, but man, is it a PITA.
Google Blogger - not used this.

Theres also a lot of addons and themes that you can customise to your needs for wordpress and most of the others... Just think to yourself what you need from it, and see if there are the features or addons to support your needs...
Just going for the biggest and best isnt always the best option! loads of features you dont need will usually result in too much going on at once and your point wont be made as effectively.. your a good writer from what I have seen and it would be a shame if your point got lost in a sea of crap on the screen

@Chaos If I should actually dare to launch this project I would aim to keep it simple. I have no idea of blogging, but I assume that basically you define a design framework and then just update the content. That would suit me fine.
BTW, that's also the reason I asked for the netbook, because it would be nice to be able to write stuff while being in the metro (I have 40-60 minutes travel time to and from work)

wordpress is perfect for you mate.. take a look at my one, Ill even give you a login so you can test the backend before you fork out the dough if you want
Also@gas.. smartphone is good, but the keybaords are TINY! not ideal for a writer in a "less than stable" environment

Granted but depends on model/style. Traditional Blackberry type design of keyboard is best in my opinion and more acurate in unstable environment than slide out jobby. Wouldn't recommend a Blackberry tho (rip off email charge).

lol.. I use my iPhone for making phone calls... also play touch grind.. awsome little game!
but I hate phones... always have.. i think theyre rude and anti-social! think of the real world equivilant.. someone comes up to you and either jiggles about (vibrate) or shouts at you (ringtone) till you talk to them... if your friend shouted at you till you replied youd be pissed off!

Yeah. The iPhone is a neat bit of tech but too bespoke Apple for a biz user like myself. Shouldn't have got started on smartphones. Love 'em, I friggin' hate 'em but it's the future!
