Back on topic(ish) with a wall-o-text!
I disagree with you a little there Hzza, the sandman makes it possible to rest the shotgun (or FaN) on the target's chin and get the maximum damage right there.
So does taking alternative routes, sneaking behind people or jumping on heavies heads! Sandman is a cheap way of getting close.
In normal play (i.e. no stun), I think that the FaN is harder to deal with if a skilled scout is using it and I don't mind so much. If I can move (not stunned) then its less disappointing if I get taken down.
The best scouts are the ones that attack more than once, from blind spots and chip away at a heavy that way. I'm pleased to say that I count you in the list of such scouts mate!

- It doesn't matter what gun you have, its the way you attack that makes it harder to deal with. Maybe the FaN does make it easier for a new player to do more damage, but the skilled players are really starting to maximise its effect

I have to say that I've been eating FaN scouts for breakfast! I'll admit that I have been taken by them, but on the whole if they miss one of their shots, they aren't going to get the kill, and whilst they're reloading I can get another 3-4 shots off and usually finish the job. As for getting knocked back, its actually useful, as after the first shot it puts enough of a distance between you to keep you alive whilst the little bunny is reloading. I managed to take out at least 4-5 FaN scouts (not at the same time!) as medic the other night after they knocked me into the air, missed the second shot and then ran into a shite load of needles! My experience of using the FaN is that if you miss with one shot or aren't pushing it in the guys back, your not going to get a kill and the so called "extra jump" is way more of a hinderance as it just seems to hang you in mid air if you fire whilst jumping. I think it makes you focus more on a hit and run style, where by you have to sneak past defences, get behind someone, given them both barrels, run off, reload, rinse, repeat until dead. If that's your play style, fair enough, but theres a class called the spy thats hella lot better at sneaking/rear attacks then scout that you could be playing!
Maybe I just haven't used it enough, but I'd rather have 6 shots and be able to dodge properly

As for the Sandman, the novelty's worn off and I'm back to using the vanilla set up. I can see myself using it defending the last CP or something, but it feels so cheap when you get a kill with it, I'd rather just put in a little bit more effort a get a kill I earned! It might get more people playing scout in order to stop ubers or just generally anoy people, but it won't help them get any better as a scout as they will spend all their time shooting stationary targets!
