you should see the removable drives in My Computer at least? I can with my vista install anyway..
try going to intel and installing the chipset drivers from them
the SB will be the important one in the case.
its the ICH8M (ICH8R really... its just a slightly smaller die for the mobile version)

I'm assuming the chipset driver is the one you have, and installing it did nothing? Did removing it from device manager and doing a rescan do anything at all (whatever that's called in Vista)?

I've seen similar things on XP and fixed them by taking an axe to the registry, but that's not really the recommended way :/

There's something fundamentally amiss here. The chipset driver I got from Rock is the one Chaos is pointing me at. It appears to contain all the USB driver files but Vista won't have it.

However USB mouse is working fine!

Interestingly, the wireless adaptor ain't working either. Never has according to Mikey. Dunno if that's related.
