Back on topic. I personally love the demoman. He's the easiest target as a pyro Smiley He has no ballastic weaponry to fall back on, so has to rely on the players skill to retreat, laying stickies, or firimg stickies/pipes at the rapidly approaching pyro. A pyro, I might add, possesed of a weapon to reflect all that the demo can throw at him.

Personally, I feel against an enemy like that, crits and the ability to deal 'spam' damage at range are the demo's main chance at dealing with this flaming menace.

as a fellow member of the flame-fetish-nutters brigade, I concur. Although all that the demoman needs there is one crit to gib you, and he has 12 chances to get one, and at BEST (as airbursting pipes and stickies is not as precise an art as rockets) the pryo can only deflect 8, even then he wants to push them to the side rather than straight back at the demo as the splash damage still hurts the pyro is if it were 'his' in the first place, and obv if you've airblasted 8 stickies away, its demoman with pipe bombs vs pryo with only shottie/flaregun. But I certainly don't mind those odds. What gets me is the so called 'lucky B$£%^£"D CRIT!' that pops up not just for demomen, but for every bugger and his dog as soon as I get close to them.

As for spam, anyone who gets killed by stickie spam is equally at fault. One shot! Thats all it takes! and they go 'pop' and you worry no more! Hell, even a good for nothing, no use to the team scout can do it Tongue As for pipes, just keep paying airburst pyros like me your protection money, coz as soon as I blast it, it can't hurt you, only me. Simple!

Yep - I keep saying that stickies are not now the problem they used to be. You can shoot them.

Just means that the demo has to be more inventive when chosing the location to place them.

We do, for the moment, have the advantage that many people are one of the following:

a. Stupid
b. Forgetful
c. Don't bother to read the update notes

and therefore don't shoot stickies. However I don't know how long this will last. Wink

When were you able to shoot crit stikies before they were shot out of the gun?

Most demomen activate their stikies before they ever hit the ground there is no way you can foresee where they are shooting them and you can't shoot them in the air unless you are really good.

I strongly disagree with this. Any serious Demoman should use his sticky bombs for area defense and protection on the retreat. Your direct attack weapon should always be the pipe bomb launcher, aimed to hit your opponent in mid-air for instant detonation rather than for speculative spamming.

It was simply a response to what mode said I didn't say that there was something wrong with it just that it isn't the way it was meant to be they are more for traps than for instant death on anyone they touch.

I think we don't really know for what stickies are made for.

The main-reason is to kill enemies.

How you kill them is not very important.

Stickies were made for area denial with a big visual clue.
The soul purpose of the demoman is area defense, he does it well very well problem is that is not what people are using him for.

You realise they did that in the original TFC with their version of stickies? AND they MIRV grenades too? (the ones which blew up once, into 4 smaller bombs, and blew up again!). Spam-tastic! Wink

I use stickies for offence when necessary (ie; a lot of the time), since it's damn hard to hit things with pipe bombs (I'm not terrible, but honestly...if I'm not in danger of dying, a few well placed sticky bombs on the ground kills a scout faster then flying pipe bombs around).

Both weapons are good at area denial in one way or another, to be honest. Who hangs around when a pipe bomb is at their feet either? Smiley

Of course there were no "stickies" in TFC. Those were launched like regular pipes and had to be placed very carefully. On the other hand you could bounce then around corners or above obstacles.
