My wife has an LG Chocolate which she has hated since the moment she got it (it is awful) and I was thinking of getting a new phone for her birthday on the 24th.

She will use it mostly for texting, a few photos and she'd like an MP3 player/radio and she likes Samsungs.  It must be a flip or slidy phone.  Budget around £50 - £60

Anyone got an recommendations?

If it's PAYG, why Orange? I can't believe it's the only network you get reception with.

I got a Skypephone S2 from 3 recently, paying £20/month for 300mins/300texts and unlimited data on a 6 month contract with free phone. It has Skype and msn messenger running all the time, I've used it quite a lot for talking from my mobile, with relatives abroad, for free Smiley Google maps and web browsing works nicely over 3G too.
With a better camera, and built in GPS this would be the best cheap phone ever. Since it's only a 6 month contract, hopefully they will have a new revision of the phone with the features out that i can upgrade to for free in the summer.

Oh, I'd have to say you had a run of bad luck there Chaos. Had an Ericson 630i for a year and a half, gave it to Hex not that long ago. Currently got a K770i. Great little phone. My only grevance with it is that the surface is comming off the buttons.

I take it you have already looked at the Orange site?

I would say go with either Nokia or a Sony Ericson.

How about the Samsung J700 or similar? Radio + mp3 player, about 30 something quid (perhaps it's *too* cheap!). Would avoid the touch sensitive Samsung's like the U700 though, I've got one and it's a total pain the ass and doesn't lock properly.

I bought a Sony W300i, cost me £50 over a year ago as a stopgap, best phone I've ever had by a mile.  Heard lots of people have had problems with Sonys though.

I've currently got a K510i, which I've had for two years, surviving a dog attack and general physical punishment. Its only flaw is occasionally capitalising letters for no reason. On the other hand, I'm getting a new one for Christmas, so I might watch this thread with interest Smiley

well I have never been a phone person (although my current iPhone is changing my mind a bit).. but i always looked after them...
I had a motarola v3 razor and got it the week it came out... I still have it laying around somewhere... and it STILL works perfectly (last time i checked) and both my sonys crapped out on me 6months down the line
