So about time we made a thread on this as everyones playing and i'm spamming the shoutbox with brahms.

So I just got gold kestrel (type-b). This thing is a straight up upgrade.

Shields and weapons are both next to the engine, and both have external doors and can be instantly vented in a fire. The adjaceny makes for nice repairs too.
Just next to them are medbay and teleporter, medbay next to teleporter is a big timesaver with boarding parties.
You start with 4 crew, 2 humans, 1 zoltan, 1 mantid. The zoltan means you effectively have +1 power.
You start with +1 to weapons and your weapons are 4 1 power 1 damage lasers. Early game this incredibly more powerful than missles + double laser. Not only does the enemy have to knock your weapons offline one at a time, a single volley from you will drop their shields, do 2 damage to weapons and 1 to shields. =dead.

Wish I have more time to play it, still on my first (easy) run.

Seems a solid base for expansion, just hoping it allows player made content at some point.

I'm limited to a crew of 3 atm. :<

I have one driver, one on shield and one in weapons. If I pick up a fourth it's straight into the engine room with 'em. :x

With regards to putting a man in the weapons room, I gather it makes your recharge rate faster - I assume this applies to shields as well? Or does having a manned shield mean your shield takes more damage before going down? Doesn't seem obvious to me, anyway.

Still it's a very fun game - hopefully a multiplayer comes out for it. Would be interesting to have PvP.

I got some spooky secret crewtype with an ability then died in some random fight.

yes shield room is faster charge rate when bringing your shields back up.

I've died 34 times already. Frequently had crews of 6-8. You don't really need more than 4/5 till you get teleporters but hey. I'm loving 2 man mantid attack parties. Shredded a fair number of crews till an unmanned drone with three shields jumped me next to a star and i had no health. Poor mantids could do nothing but scream.

Type B is just do 2/3 ship achievements, tells you in the hangar.

The one time I looked up something on the wiki I got a strange thing, turns out you had to take it places then you got a secret crew type. Did you do that B? Or did you just find one of the 6 normal races. Normal aliens you can find any place are like Human, Engi, Zoltan, Rockman, Slug, Mantid.

Had a cool firebomb once that was fun with upgraded sensors. Could just burn theenemy crew to death. Messed something up and died when I had it though.

Realy feel the ship needs regenerative hull...

Have a secret crew type on mine, but think he wants me to take him somewhere else as well. No idea if I'll actually manage it.

That would be the best, a bit like that game Deadly mentioned in the shoutbox.

I remember when they first proposed Star Trek Online it was a bit like that and I was very excited but then they watered it down and made everyone a 'captain' with NPC crews. Didn't bother with it after that.

It's a nice game but it doesn't have that roguelike feel of exploring the unknown, even without ever ever checking the wiki nothing I've come across excites or surprises me. I don't even normally feel that bad when I die, i'm just like "that was irritating" I think it's jsut weak writing/scene setting. Stuff like flotilla/spelunky/dark souls manage it better.

Yeah - we've bought a copy of Artemis so we can play it at ours - had it set up in the living room yesterday but without the projector.

I'll make sure to bring it+projector to LAN

I got an anti-bio beam on one run. I def prefer murdering the crews.

Theres an aug and a drone that lets you regen on the go. My worst death yet I had 19 drone parts each worth 3-5 hull hp. And you can use them mid battle. So mad I didn't, hulinut was distracting me.

Just got burst laser 3 on my gold kestrel. Holy balls. All I need now is the preignitor and I can say hello by destroying your ship.

Ok this is silly my weapons operator is now level 2 in like sector 3. Because he has so many lasers to fire all the time.

I'm kinda disappointed about the Kestrel type b being an upgrade (though I haven't unlocked it yet). The engi ship type b is a nice sidegrade.
