Hey all.
I'm currently running Vista and I really should upgrade to Win 7 64. Traditionally I'll swallow OS upgrade costs when I do a new PC build, but that's not happening any time soon and I'm struggling with the cost of an upgrade to Win 7.
I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for purchasing Win 7 on the cheap? There are plenty of key downloader services that I've avoided like the plague as trust is an issue and I don't know anyone who has used any of these sites.
I'd much rather have the full OS rather than an upgrade. Any tips/help would be appreciated.

are you a student omni? because win7 is like £40 for students. And when i say student you just need a .ac.uk email address.

I have a Windows 7 Basic license sticker from one of my colleagues who ran over his Sony netbook with the forklift. I assume it would be legal to run it if you want it.
Must be better than Vista anyway.

IDK where you live, but we have MSDNAA and win 7 Pro is for free! But the legit cheap way is to rat it and then get "The Get Genuine Kit" The product is "6PC-00020" http://www.microsoft.com/oem/en/licensing/antipiracy/pages/get_genuine_kit.aspxSeems they have changed the prices OEM Win 7 Pro 64 bit FQC-04649 <<-- a bit less than GGK Retail version FQC-00133 <<--- more expensive than GGK

It's only free for comp. science students over here...
The others get some weird cheap one that gets bound to their account and needs to be activated against a special uni server every year.

Slightly iffy, but if you know anyone that works in education... a friend of mine has a relative that works at a uni in admin, they were able to get a copy of Win7 for the desktop and a copy for their 'laptop'...

Thanks for all the replies guys. No kids either, I think an educational licence is out. I have a Windows 7 Basic license sticker from one of my colleagues who ran over his Sony netbook with the forklift. I assume it would be legal to run it if you want it.
Must be better than Vista anyway. Think I may run into trouble when I try to activate it, really appreciated though thanks! Think I may have to save up my pennies.

If you don't mind waiting I should be able to get you a key within a week or two.
Also, use the link I posted earlier and just invent someone, they don't check.
