they've ammended the origin terms to say they won't sell the info and I assume they have their own version of VAC which needs to scan through your drives. Steam collects software lists too and gives it to valve as well as scanning for VAC.
The thing I don't get though is EA are claiming that they can't go on steam because the steam terms and conditions state a game must deliver dlc and patches through steam, has that changed at some point because the vanilla versions (not goty) of arkham asylum and fallout 3 and stuff had dlc available for purchase only through gfwl. The patch thing seems a dumb thing to quibble about you should be able to choose whether to update via steam or origin or whatever, the rule about dlc though if true is surely breaking EU monopoly laws?

I think it is just to do with the competition between Origin and Steam. Seems EA are looking for an excuse to remove their titles from Steam.

Well many games already sell DLC and patch outside of Steam, so it either is a new rule or BS. IANAL but I don't see why it would be illegal to not let others sell your stuff?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Union_competition_law#Dominance_and_monopoly(a) directly or indirectly imposing unfair purchase or selling prices or other unfair trading conditions; Trading law is pretty vague but i'm fairly sure dictating market terms like you must sell dlc through steam counts as unfair trading conditions. Steam is also technically in breach of indirectly imposing unfair purchase prices too, they claim that its the publishers that set the steam prices but there was an interview somewhere of some publishers saying otherwise.

It is only vague if you try and understand it by reading Wikipedia and don't read the case law That Treaty really doesn't have anything to do with the gaming sector which is heavily competitive - where price can only really be based on the demand (couldn't come in and charge £100). Steam can charge any amount they want for their 'stock'. The only issue would be if it was determined that they were selling so cheaply that they were doing so artificially in order to force out competition or customers could not buy games from anywhere else.

They are only using 8 PCs to show off the game I asked the guy at the front of the queue and he said he waited 1 1/2 hour.

32 Player rush map? From the info I heard about the alpha it's pretty infantry oriented too. A shame but what can be done. It's only ten days anyway.
