I'm on wireless out of necessity (read: don't want to have to run a 15m cable through the entire house) but never had issues like this before. Resetting router didn't work last night, will warn my housemates and try again in a bit.

The only thing I can think of that's different since before Christmas is that our boiler's broken, but doesn't seem like the sort of issue to cause the same issue in the entire house.

There's no way it should be giving you pings like that to your router. Have you tried pinging it from another computer to see if it's *your* wireless as opposed to the router?

Also...homeplugs/powerline adapters. Do it now.

Yeah, sometimes it is a dodgy thing in your laptop/PC rather then the router given wireless can be really dodgy sometimes.

Without custom firmware (ie: the ever great DD-WRT, which I don't know if would run on your router) it'd be impossible to really tell where the connection issues are. I guess it's a Windows only household too?

Yeah, two 7s and an XP. The router's a Thomson SpeedTouch TG585v7 with an O2 coating (custom router config page, etc). Short of stealing one of their computers for a few hours to install TF2 and try and join a server (not really doable), I can't tell if it's just me, just the wireless, or what. The fact that it's fine until connected to a server suggests it's not a wireless issue, but I've no idea if I'm honest.

Either way, it's probably not a bad thing what with exams coming up. Since it emerged randomly with time it might go away randomly with time, and since I'm either revising or at Kira's at the moment I can afford to leave it.

Hmm, It looks like a wireless interference issue to me, could be that a neighbour has a new wireless router set up on the same channel.  Run inSSIDer or Netstumbler and see, but changing wireless channels isn't a bad idea anyway (pick one that's at least 3 channels different to your current one)
Another slight possibility is if your boiler uses a wireless thermostat, with the boiler broken it could be putting out increased traffic or something and causing interference.

Also, Powerline FTW, so much better than wifi. Plus it pisses off HAM radio enthusiasts Cheesy
I've got a pair of These and they work great. You could probably get by on a pair of 85Mb/s ones just for the internet/gaming though and save yourself a tenner.

ive got the cheapest ones i could buy they are only 55mbs or something and i've not had any problems with then. Ive had a problem with a thomson router though in that they suck and i had to scrap it to avoid the annoying tf2 connection glitch where you don't really connect.

Maybe ring O2 and ask them to send you a replacement router? Can't hurt and might solve your problems.

oh and if its the same router model as mine (likely) its fucked, it has a bad udp flood implementation which is what causes connect problems in steam (apparently) and is just all round a shit with poor config

Any recommended routers? Preferably the sort that would pop up under the 'dirt cheap' category of ebay.
