Bump- had another go at this today to pass the time in between headbutting my desk. From extended reading and working out which mode of netgraph I use to get the fancy graph up, it seems my issue is abnormally high choke. This seems to be across all games, so it's not just a TF2 rate issue. Here's a standard screenshot in a fight:

I haven't tried my new router yet since I'm meant to be revising. It's also apparent that the firmware for the router we're using is out of date. I'll be able to poke around with those next week, but any ideas for now?

I had a very similar problem, but I can't remember how I fixed it.

It might have been port forwarding, but I'm not sure.

O2 have been throttling since December. These filtering/throttling measures often have unfortunate side effects.

Switch to Be if you can, they are still ok.

Choke is cause when there are throttling/queuing measures imposed on your uploads.

It was fine for the whole of December, and it doesn't affect any other game I play at the moment. There's no complaints about it on the O2 forum except for one when they crippled WoW connections due to it having a small P2P component. As far as I know, TF2 hasn't got a P2P issue.

I did a full reinstall today (wiped my team fortress folder and everything) so that should see if some setting was causing it.

Another problem that has been creeping in over last few years is something called Buffer Bounce... not related to this but interesting for any network people who haven't come accross it

sorry to be always coming here to get my answers BUT I'm having a weird problem with my BThomehub. The internet connection had been great until about a week ago. Then it became shitty and only now I realised I should do a tracert to see what's going on. It appears that there is a big jump from my computer to the homehub of about 100ms and I'm certain it should be lower than that. All the other jumps are fine it's only that one. Any ideas?

Mine has that 100ms, it's a Shitty Thompson Router Problem (I'm on O2, but I think they use the same Thomson SpeedTouch TG585v7?). If what I've read is to be believe it happens anyway, so I doubt your internet issues are stemming from there unless the rest of the route is giving 100+ times as well.

Had a fun development with my issues the other day; MNC, which I'd played twice before, suddenly had an issue of disconnecting about 10s after getting in game. It turned out that it's directly caused by a Shitty Thompson Router Problem, which times out the connection with the Valve Master Server if you connect to a game less than 60 seconds after a refresh of the server browser. Basically, while I was new to MNC I spent over a minute dicking around with server filters and settings so didn't notice it, but on coming back I knew what I was doing and therefore tripped the disconnect.

I too have some internet issues; Whenever the home phone rings, the router either reboots itself or loses the connection. It's weird. And a nuisance.

It's a Microfilter issue.
Make sure you have a Microfilter on every socket where there is a phone. If the issue is still occurring, one or more of the microfilters is dodgy.

Make sure you have a Microfilter on every socket where there is a phone. If the issue is still occurring, one or more of the microfilters is dodgy.

Unfortunately that didn't work. I talked to my ISP about the issue and they gave me a new router, which fixed the problem.

Now I have a new, ISP related problem (thanks to skinned for tracking that down). My games roll a few frames back approximately every 30 seconds. Sadly going back in time doesn't resurrect in TF2. Hope they'll fix that quickly
