Hmm. On the one hand it's difficult to imagine an author changing the end of a book to satisfy fans, but films frequently do this after test screenings show xzy.

I guess that's test screenings though, not after theatrical release. Changes then tend to be director's cuts and blamed on whatever.

But changing a book is near impossible. You can reprint an edited version, you can retcon it in later episodes/books, but you can not change it.

Ease of change is one of the unique features of video games. Generally, video games can do a lot of stuff other mediums can't do. You can't do a free to play book. You can't constantly expand a movie like Valve has done with TF2.

Some free Multiplayer DLC came out today, adds 2 new maps and new characters (Geth Infiltrator yayy)

Its retardedly hidden though, you need to show up the game details in Origin and then theres a little button where you can "buy" game addons, the new one is listed as free.

I finally finished my playthrough of Mass Effect 2 so I can *finally* (despite having the game installed since the release day) start on Mass Effect 3.

I'm about an hour or so into it - the gameplay thus far is pretty similar to ME2 with some graphics & interface improvements. The AI/enemies seem improved over ME2 - the AI seems to be better and they have more options than just 'hide in cover' and 'shoot'.

I have no doubts that the story is going to be epic.

It's funny you should say this - there was actually a book published that had multiple endings written and you could choose whichever ending you wanted (and then go back and read the others if you wanted to).

i don't see what the point of a book comparison is? You can't release book dlc and traditional stories are massively varied in endings and content. Before modern printed type anyway. The idea that a story is fixed is a crazy new one based around printing. And better an official mod than some horrible fan mod, which you know would have happened given all the nerd rage.

And I don't see what the complaints are about. If you already finished the game, you've had your ending. If you're fine with it, that's great for you. If not, enjoy the new endings. Seems like a totally irrelevant thing to get upset about to me.

I do, Power. The reason people are so mad over this is that the whole premise of the entire Mass Effect Series these last 5 years and 3 games was that every decision you make will influence the outcome of the trilogy, thats something theyve been saying ever since they announced Mass Effect 2. The reality is that while you do get to make some really major decisions in 3 which have a major impact on the lore, none of it matters in the end, you get 3 endings and it completely disregards ANYTHING (ANYTHING!!) you did in these 60-70 hours of gameplay beforehand. The only thing that matters in the end is the Galactic Readyness Rating which can be achieved by just completing missions (regardless of outcome) and playing the Multiplayer, so probably 2 of the least influencing factors that should play a role in this. The number 1 reason the ending to this awesome trilogy sucks is that it shits on everything you did before that.

Im not one of the people that complaints about it so much. I for myself did like the ending I chose from a story point of view, its just sad that I wouldve gotten it if I wouldve done everything the completely other way.

People are also mad that the game ends with a reveal that all 3 games were basically a nighttime story told by a granddad to his son. It ends with the kid saying "Tell me another story about the Shepard" - "Its getting late but okay one more story...", so basically it says that its still not over, even though the ending basically stated that Shepard died while using the Crucible

I haven't played ME2 or 3 yet, i'm just saying in general. If you already finished the game it shouldn't matter to you and stuff.

Well I dont know, at PAX they said that the extended stuff wont change the way the ending was storywise, but Im very pessimistic. I just hope they dont fuck it up completely and turn it into more fanservice.

I thought the ending was shit but I really don't see why everyone is so butthurt about it. To be fair to the developers if they had tried to make endings that encompassed most of the decisions you made in the previous ME's then the game would probably still be in development for another year or 2. ME3 was made to wrap the whole thing up, and it wasn't as bad as KotOR2.

Finished it a couple of days ago (might have accidentally stayed up until 3:30am :/ ). Fantastic game. I'm still not quite sure about the ending and there were a couple of things I didn't really understand ...

That the war readiness rating doesn't increase unless you play multiplayer and that for some reason, despite being as paragon as I could be - I couldn't choose the last paragon option when talking to the illusive man.

Also, the ending options were a bit lame I thought, couldn't really find any reason to pick one over another since it seemed like you died regardless.
