Yo, quick search reveals no general movie threads, what's the deal?

So here's the place to talk about what you're watching atm, what you plan to watch and general discussion, I'll start.

Anywho I was chatting with Dodgy and we were talking about this. Anyone else seen it? Anyone understand it? If not, go watch it! It's an anime about kids who pilot robots, BUT WAIT. It's not as simple as that, really need to watch these before you judge them.

It gets very weird towards the end, but imo is entertaining and meaningful, prolly my favourite anime out there.

I've tried with Anime, even bought a few of the "must haves" but I just don't get it...

Just finished watching this. Thought it was a bit 'meh'. About 75% of it was filler, and what little story was there wasn't really fleshed out enough.

As for movies, I recently saw Lord of War. Probably the only movie Nicolas Cage was good in, and that's because his character is such a douche anyway that he was perfect for the role. Would recommend it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

For those who watch anime (or even for those who don't), I'd highly recommend Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Goes quite heavily into philosophy at points but don't let that put you off. It's one of, if not the, best series I've ever seen (anime or not).

I just watched "The Experiment", "Kick Ass" and "Unthinkable" all of which were pretty good.

EDIT: As for movies. If someone of you didn't watch Memento yet. Do it. One of the older movies by Nolan. Kinda blew me away back then.

Ahhh saw Ghost in the shell a long time ago, don't remember anything about it! All i remember was my dad going on about how good it was.

Also for all you guys who don't get anime, what's not to get? It's just a film in a different medium where all the characters say a word and then add an obligatory UUUUUUUUU to it.

Also Nicolas Cage is dump trashcan dumpster garbage.

Watching Cowboy Bebop atm, it's ok, very nice animation (for the time) but severely overrated.

For live-action films, gotta give it to Memories of Murder, YOU MUST SEE THIS FILM.

I loved Anime when I was a kid, you know the usual stuff (Pokemon, Dragonball Z, Captain Tsubasa ) but Ive lost all interest after that. I really hate the style and am generally not a fan of asian culture.

And Nicholas Cage has a face I just wanna punch

The only animé stuff I've watched have been the kiddies anime films like Spirited Away.. and My Neighbour Totoro.

And I have to say I loved them but I haven't got into any of these more serious animé productions

both very good films but neither compare to Leaving Las Vagas, truly amazing film. Guy takes far too many shitty acting roles because he's lazy, but in reality he is a very strong actor. Believe it or not he won an oscar for the above film.

I only really enjoy anime that takes itself seriously, any of that kids stuff or overly violent stuff just gets hella boring. art has to have a little integrity otherwise it might as well be drawn in crayon.

And in recent news, i went to see The Social Network by david fincher the other day. quite incredible film, made every character look like a bastard while still having them sympathetic and relatable. which is surprising as the whole thing was about facebook :S. oh and the soundtrack is by trent reznor so it kicks all kinds or arse.

SAC is solid nice little series I need to watch the second.
